The House committee investigating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol Thursday released walkie talkie communications from the far-right group Keepers of the Oath on the day of the insurrection. In the audio, the group says former President Donald Trump did not tell the rioters to “walk away” when he tweeted to support Capitol Police amid the attack.

At the around 2:30 pm on January 6, 2021Trump tweeted “Please support our Capitol Police and law enforcement. They are truly on our country’s side. Rest in peace!”

O January 6 House Committee tweeted Thursday said the walkie-talkie communication released was between some members of the Oath Keepers who were on Capitol Hill and some who were monitoring intelligence elsewhere.

On the recording, an Oath Keepers member read the tweet and said, “That’s saying a lot. But what he didn’t say, he didn’t say do nothing to Congressmen.”

There’s laughter, and then someone else said, “Well, he didn’t ask them to leave. He just said to stand by the Capitol Police.”

The same person added that he was watching CNN and “it’s sounding too radical to me. CNN said that Trump incited this, that he’s encouraging it, and that he’s watching the country burn two weeks before he leaves office. He’s not stepping down.” .I don’t give a damn what they say.

Someone then erupted in communication, saying he was “on the mezzanine” and “main dome”.

“We’re rocking it,” the person said, adding that “they’re throwing grenades.”

Another voice said to “be safe” and then said that the riot is “everything we train for”.

The House committee did not identify any of the voices, nor did it disclose how it obtained the audio.

The tweet comes shortly after the Jan. 6 House committee asked U.S. District Judge David O. Carter on Wednesday to review 3,200 pages of emails from Trump Allied Lawyer John Eastman to see if they fit your claims of executive privilege. In the filing, House attorney Douglas Letter said his questions to Eastman’s attorney went largely unanswered, and “it seems clear that further consultation with the plaintiff’s attorney will not result in the selected committee receiving the material it seeks in a timely manner.” .

In July, Carter ordered Eastman to hand over 159 documents to the committee, determining that another 440 were privileged and protected from disclosure.

The Jan. 6 committee focused on Eastman as the alleged architect of a dubious legal strategy, after the 2020 election, to get then-Vice President Mike Pence to reject election votes from key battle states won by President Biden. Pence ended up rejecting the plan, arguing that he lacked the authority to carry it out.

The January 6 committee met again this week after taking a hiatus after a series of public hearings this summer aimed at revealing what they discovered during their year-long investigation into the attack. Earlier this week, the committee’s chairman, Representative Bennie Thompson, said the committee’s “goal” is to have another public hearing on September 28.

Thompson said Tuesday that the committee intends to prepare an interim report in mid-October, two weeks after a proposed hearing in late September, and will finalize the report before the end of the year.
