Sean Hannity identified the culprit of the collapsed poll numbers of Dr. Mehmet Oz in his run for the U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania: Mitch McConnell?

In doing so, the Fox News host also unwittingly argued that Oz was a terrible candidate who he didn’t have to spur on in the first place.

Oz appeared on Hannity repeatedly with the host’s support before and after Oz won the GOP primary, likely thanks in part to his appearances on the show. He also called Hannity a “true friend” who has he gave him “behind the scenes” campaign tips.

But so far, voters are unconvinced by Oz, a New Jersey baggage handler who has only registered vote in Pennsylvania in 2020 — using her in-laws’ address. He also published some weird social media posts and can’t stop become owner on Twitter.

A set of polls show Oz dragging lieutenant governor John Fetterman double digits in the race to replace a retired Republican senator, despite Fetterman having held just one rally since suffering a stroke in May. Fetterman is work with a speech therapist to overcome his speech difficulties.

So far, Oz has been a poor candidate. That doesn’t mean he can’t win, as there is plenty of time to improve as a candidate and close the gap. But right now the numbers look bad for Oz, and they’re bad because he’s a bad candidate.

But for Hannity, it’s an unpleasant conclusion because it means acknowledging that your “true friend” is a bad candidate and that you did a lot to help the bad candidate get the nomination. It also means donald trump got it wrong when he endorsed Oz, which is simply an impossible conclusion to draw in Republican politics. So the fault must be elsewhere, everywherebut with Oz and the people who actively supported him.

Enter Mitch McConnell.

On his Friday night show, Hannity played a clip of McConnell suggesting he was concerned about some Republican Senate candidates, though he didn’t name any.

“I think there’s probably a better chance of the House rocking than the Senate,” McConnell said. said. “Senate races are just different. They are statewide. The quality of candidates has a lot to do with the outcome.

Hannity reacted with outrage and said McConnell’s plan for Republican candidates was to “let them dry off and fend for themselves” in their races.

“You don’t hear Chuckie Schumer complaining about the quality of applicants in Pennsylvania,” Hannity added. “How about you go over there, Mitch, and fight for your team?” What’s your schedule, Mitch?

Now, what McConnell is supposed to do to help Oz is anyone’s guess. But if the complaint is that Republicans’ Senate fundraising arm isn’t doing enough to help him, that’s a blame that should be leveled at Sen. Rick Scott, the chairman of the Republican National Senate Committee. Hannity surely has Scott’s number, as the senator has appeared on her show several times.

Anyway, here’s how Hannity described Fetterman during this segment:

Quality of the candidate? You mean like in Pennsylvania – the Democratic Senate nominee, a devout socialist style in the conceit of – let’s see – Bernie Sanders, who he endorsed over Joe Biden; a guy who literally can’t put two sentences together himself; he only spent 11 minutes on the election campaign; a guy who wants to legalize heroin and have places where people can shoot in public.

Now, just for the sake of discussion, let’s say it’s true that the Democratic Senate candidate in a swing state is a staunch socialist who can’t speak coherently. The fact remains that currently, this man is leading in the polls for a seat currently held by a Republican.

And while we italicize here, What does this fact say about his adversary?

He says that right now Oz is a bad candidate. He is a famous mega-millionaire doctor who owns 10 properties and only recently moved to Pennsylvania, a deeply working-class Rust Belt state whose constituents he is (surprisingly!) not currently in touch with.
