John Fetterman having a lot of fun on Twitter at the expense of dr. Mehmet Ozhis Republican rival for the Pennsylvania Senate seat, and Oz can’t seem to help stepping on rakes in his attempts to fight back.

Fetterman, who is currently lieutenant governor of Keystone State, made Oz’s longtime residence in neighboring New Jersey a central part of his campaign message, poking fun at Oz as an out-of-touch millionaire celebrity of Pennsylvania blue-collar voters.

One of Fetterman’s most memorable Twitter zingers was responding to an Oz campaign video to point out that it was filmed at his New Jersey mansion which was profiled in People.

The LG has also hired Nicole Lavallebetter known as Snooki’s jerseyshore, to record a Cameo video for him to tweet to Oz, an online service that lets people buy “personalized video messages” from celebrities. “Jersey won’t forget you… And don’t worry!” Because you’ll be back in Jersey soon. It’s only temporary. Well, good luck. You have this! And Jersey loves you. Mwah!” Lavalle says enthusiastically in the video, ending with a kiss on camera.

Fetterman deployed a real well-known meme parades against Oz, ridiculing his attempts to distance himself from the former president donald trumpa typo he made by misspelling the name of his hometown on his declaration of candidacy, and other missteps.

He also took several of Oz’s social media posts from the campaign trail and pointed out how the TV doctor acts more like a ‘tourist’ than a local, and rented an airplane banner to taunt Oz. . Almost every Oz post invites a joke from Fetterman and a bunch of his followers.

Philadelphia Magazine editor-in-chief Ernest Owenswho has been covering Fetterman’s campaign since last year, wrote a lengthy Twitter thread that praised the Democrat’s Twitter war as a savvy strategy because he was “maximizing all of his resources very well (base, social media, fundraising, awareness)”, so dismissing the irreverent tweets as mere “successful sitposts” was “intellectually dishonest and misses what he has been doing all along”.

The “Dr. Oz memes are fun,” but they also bolster Fetterman’s fundraising, a key asset in his primary victory and critical to his efforts to tip the Senate seat blue, Owens continued.

Overall, Fetterman’s message has “resonated with voters,” Owens said, and the combination of his TV ads, social media posts and grassroots fundraising is “the perfect potion to crush Oz and it shows in the polls.”

A sign of a successful campaign messaging strategy is when it is picked up by supporters who offer their own contributions to the theme. Oz’s social media post of famous Philly cheesesteak spots prompted a scolding from one, Pat’s King of Steaks, who tweeted to ask, “Do you even live in Pa?”
