Mark Levin takes on Mediaite Fact-Check with insults

It would be insane for Mediaite to hire a 12-year-old who has never read books and failed science to write complex commentary, so it’s a good thing that didn’t happen. But the listeners of The Mark Levin Show could have wondered if that was the policy, based on Monday’s episode.

Right Expert Marc Levin Didn’t Appreciate Your Friendly Neighborhood Mediaite Contributing to Fact-Checking Sunday’s Opening of Life, Liberty and Levindropping a nearly 10-minute monologue on Monday that mostly consisted of reading lines to him of the item punctuated with a chain of ad hominem attacks and never to refute the key points that I have raised.

On his Sunday night Fox show, Levin began with what I characterized as “a rant at the president that of Joe Biden energy policies.” After refreshing my memory of Levin’s rhetorical style and spending ten minutes of his radio show, it seems to be just his default speaking tone, so maybe I can be wrong in saying it was a “rant”, and I apologize if I was wrong about that.

I was not wrong on the substance of my article. Levin spent several minutes Sunday criticizing the policies of the Biden administration with a greenhouse gas debatefocusing on carbon dioxide, which he said is “not a pollutant”, as it occurs naturally in the environment and is essential for life.

Without carbon dioxide, we die. Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant… It is oxygen for plants. Essentially, plants use carbon dioxide to create oxygen for you and me… they suck in our carbon dioxide and push the oxygen out.

In my post, I included the video of Levin’s commentary and a full transcript of the relevant section, then pointed out that Levin failed to mention that excess carbon dioxide is too generated by human activity, “including solid waste treatment, chemical processes like cement and fertilizer manufacturing, and of course the burning of fossil fuels like coal, natural gas, and oil.”

Additionally, Levin failed to mention the three other main types of greenhouse gases besides carbon dioxide — nitrous oxide, methane, and fluorinated gases, especially hydrofluorocarbons — that are generated by industrial processes. man-made or naturally generated but with a direct link to human activity. , such as methane emitted by livestock, agricultural practices and the breakdown of solid waste in landfills.

I quoted several conservative sources to refute Levin’s oversimplified definition and noted that just because carbon dioxide is natural does not mean it cannot be a pollutant or cause harm.

In other words, portraying carbon dioxide as simply “oxygen for plants!” and leaving out other kinds of man-made greenhouse gases was, well, gaslighting.

Levin is right that plants use carbon dioxide to create oxygen – I never said he wasn’t – but he uses that fact to distort the overall greenhouse gas problem of hug and ridicule anyone who thinks there is cause for concern.

In the clip posted above, Levin reads my article, ending virtually every sentence with some sort of ad hominem insult. Because Levin seems to have trouble with word definitions, I’ll note that “ad hominem” is the Latin meaning “to the person”, and refers to an argument where the speaker is attacking character, motive, or some other aspect of their opponent rather than addressing the substance of the opponent’s argument. Anyone who has been on Twitter in their lifetime will recognize the unfortunate popularity of this tactic in our current political discourse.

Levin started his show mispronouncing my name as “Sarah Rump,” a childish taunt I learned to ignore in the elementary school playground and can only laugh when deployed by a lawyer. who thinks it replaces a logical argument. The family name is German, the “F” is included in the phonetically correct pronunciation, and it means “trunk”, taking on the same meanings as this word in English (trunk of a tree, trunk of a car, body torso, etc. .).

An additional sampling of Levin’s slurs, including bizarre speculation that I’m 12 or transgender:

Sarah Rump writes for Mediaite – no one really knows why Mediaite exists. It’s sort of the little sister of Media Matters.

Sarah Rump, I don’t know who she is, she’s probably 12.

You see, it’s a young woman, I guess a person giving birth. I don’t know, maybe in transition, who can tell?

Totally ignorant, never read my books. Know nothing about carbon dioxide. Nothing. Maybe she missed science in third grade – everything about plants, carbon dioxide, the creation of oxygen.

Corrupt and stupid.

That’s my point of view, silly.

[Responding to my point that he omitted 3 of 4 types of greenhouse gases] I got 10 minutes there, girl. You are a young woman. A lady and young, I suppose.

[In response to a NASA study I linked] We do not care?

[In response to a quote from a conservative environmental policy expert] We do not care? …Is that the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard?

[In response to links to multiple studies on the effects of excess atmospheric carbon dioxide on plants]: Oh, well, that’s good. It’s time they study it… Ah, bullshit. Oh shit.

Dim-witted, that’s what it’s called.

Levin concluded by mentioning the line where I wrote that I had contacted Fox News for comment but had not received a response.

“Now I gave you the answer, moron!” ” he said. “This has got to be one of the dumbest essays I’ve ever read. I don’t know who this Sarah Rump is. Don’t really give a damn.

He spent 10 minutes calling me a moron and a fool and saying he didn’t know who I was, when a very simple Google search almost always brings up my Twitter account @rumpfshaker as the first link, which shows my work here, and just like Levin, I graduated from law school.

One of the things they teach you in law school is how to analyze your opponent’s argument and offer a rebuttal. Reading a line from my article and calling me “idiot” doesn’t really refute what I wrote. Repeatedly dismissing someone as “young lady” is not only a real argument, but likely to invite a judge to reprimand you for unprofessionalism (as has happened at least once in the first years of my legal practice).

Bless your heart Mr. Levin but I’m a proud Gen Xer and it’s weird that you called me a 12 year old I’m not transgender and that was a weird thing to say too , i did very well in math and science classes throughout my studies, i know that plants need carbon dioxide to create oxygen and i never said they don’t didn’t, and I’ve read your books and I’m pretty sure I still have at least one in a box in the garage.

Again, Levin didn’t bother to address my main point: the way he described carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases was deliberately incomplete and only focused on the benign aspects. . As I wrote“The problem isn’t all those beautiful trees gently pumping oxygen to us, but rather the extra carbon dioxide generated by human activity since the industrial revolution.”

It would be easy to end my argument with a cheap joke that greenhouse gases aren’t the only thing that creates hot air. Or even reject the name mockery and tell Levin to kiss my Rumpf. But I prefer to use real facts and logical reasoning when refuting an argument. Which, in this case, seems to be exactly what triggered it.

Not bad for an idiot.
