“The Owl House”
When to watch: Now on Disney+.

This charming cartoon – aimed at children but with plenty of energy and humor for older audiences as well – follows Luz, a young teenager with a powerful imagination. She’s heading to the magical kingdom of the Boiling Islands instead of being stuck at Reality Check Camp, and she’s the kind of kid who greets the day by shouting “Hello, terrifying fantasy world!” “Owl” sets itself apart from other tweeny series with its robust LGBTQ representation and quick, self-aware jokes. If you like “Infinity Train” or “Summer Camp Island,” or just need a cartoon that isn’t irritating, watch this.

When to watch: Now on AppleTV+.

If your Zillowscrolling tends towards fantasy, try this docuseries about fabulous, remarkable homes around the world and the invariably interesting people who design and live in them. “Home” is very close to “The World’s Most Extraordinary Homes” or “Chef’s Table”, shows whose reverence for beauty is so intense it almost feels like a sin. The nine-episode first season was released in 2020, and 10 new episodes were released at the end of June. I liked the Mexico City one, but you can’t really go wrong ogling the architectural marvels.

“The Anarchists”
When to watch: Sundays at 10 p.m. on HBO.

This documentary series isn’t exactly about a cult, but the outlines are the same: a group of people separated from society in pursuit of a common vision, and things are going well for a while until they are doing very, very badly. Here it is a group of anarcho-capitalists who settle in Acapulco, Mexico, where they also organize an annual convention, mainly on cryptocurrencies. At six episodes, “The Anarchists” is a bit bloated, and its reliance on pretend-typing Facebook updates becomes tiresome, but the conflicts it depicts are wild, tragic, and shocking, and its invocation of traumatic plotting is disconcertingly effective.
