Hong Kong authorities will investigate why a large, heavy video screen fell from the ceiling during a concert by a popular boy band at a government-run venue, injuring two dancers, officials said on Friday. responsible.

The coliseum is 23 meters high, or about 75 feet, according to the government agency that manages the site. The screens of the four-sided projection system installed in the center of the room each measure 5 meters by 3.9 meters.

Hong Kong authorities said in a brief statement early Friday that the Department of Recreation and Cultural Services, which operates the site, had been tasked with investigating the cause of the accident in coordination with officials from the Department of Labor and other agencies.

The statement also said the government had contacted the concert organizers on Wednesday – a day before the accident – about “incidents on stage in recent days”. He did not specify.

John Leegeneral manager of Hong Kong, said in a separate statement that he had asked the recreation department and the culture, sports and tourism secretariat to “review the safety requirements of similar entertainment activities”.

“I am shocked by the incident,” Mr Lee said. “I express my sympathy to those who were injured and hope they recover soon.”

On Tuesday, Mirror member Frankie Chan Sui-fai fell off the stage at the Hong Kong Coliseum during the second day of the band’s scheduled 12-day concert series, The South China Morning Post reported. He fell about a meter and was not seriously injured, according to the report.

Makervillethe concert organizer, apologized for the accident in an Instagram post early Friday, adding that the remaining Mirror concerts at the venue would be cancelled.

The Colosseum opened in 1983, when Hong Kong was still a British territory, and can accommodate around 12,500 people, according to the Department of Recreation and Cultural Services.
