The deadline to register to vote in South Dakota has passed — it was May 23, according to the state election calendar. But if you’re heading to the polls today, here’s what you need to know:
How to vote
Need to check if you are registered? You can do it here. Polling stations close at 7 p.m. local time.
The deadline to request mail-in ballots was Monday. Use This site to track the status of your mail-in ballot. Voters who are “confined due to illness or disability” may use an authorized messenger to request an absentee ballot until 3:00 p.m. local time on election day.
Where to vote
Use This site to find polling stations near you. Absentee ballots must be returned to a county election official “on Election Day in sufficient time to deliver your ballot to your polling place before the polls close,” according to the state website.
What’s on the ballot
There are a handful of contests on the ballot for statewide offices, including for governor, senator and the state’s only member of the House of Representatives.
Voters will also decide to increase the level of support needed to push most voter-initiated referendums to 60% of the majority. Read the poll question here.
