In a phone interview on Monday, Ante, 31, who lives near Stuttgart, Germany, and works in IT, said he and his fiancée, 26, were puzzled and saddened after his failed proposal.
“Disneyland is all about dreams,” he said. “Our moment has been destroyed.”
He said he had been planning the proposal since Christmas, when his fiancĂ©e gave him the Disneyland tickets. In the four years they’ve been together, Ante added, Disney magic has played a big part in their relationship.
Early in their relationship, he says, he gave her a rose in a glass dome, similar to the enchanted rose from “Beauty and the Beast.” They watched almost every Disney movie, he said, adding that he had agonized for months over exactly where, how and when to propose.
By the time they got to the theme park, Ante said, he felt he couldn’t wait for the evening fireworks any longer. “I was too excited,” he said. Before going on stage, he said, he whispered in the ear of an employee, asking her permission.
Disney did not immediately respond to questions about whether that was the case or whether the employee who kicked them off the stage had been disciplined.
In the wake of his messed up plan, Ante said, he and his fiancee weren’t even sure if she had said yes. He said they sat on a nearby bench, where he put the ring on her finger, and together they quietly watched the proposal clip on his phone (which he originally handed to a unknown to film with).
