If you want the perfect encapsulation of the anti-anti-Trump left these days, look no further than At Tulsi Gabbard’s appearance in Wednesday’s installment of Hannity.

The former Democrat MP discussed a leak draft opinion of an upcoming Supreme Court decision in the case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health. This decision would reverse Roe vs. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision establishing the constitutional right to abortion. Written by Samuel Alito, Dobbs declares that such a right does not exist and that abortion should be left to the decision of the States.

Although she once introduced a bill in Congress that would have banned abortions after about five months of pregnancy, Gabbard has mentioned“Abortion should be safe, legal and rare.”

Also, in a response submitted to a Vote Smart questionnaire ahead of the 2020 presidential election, then-candidate Gabbard said, “The very real possibility of Roe vs. Wade being knocked down terrifies me. I’m sick of women’s bodies being used as pawns for politicians to score cheap political points at the expense of their freedom and security.

So, of course, Gabbard did exactly what you expected. She went on TV two days after it was reported that the Supreme Court is set to overturn the same precedent whose elimination “terrifies” her, and she said it bluntly.

I laugh.

Gabbard said she supports the court’s decision.

“I think when you look at the different efforts to attack our freedom and our democracy, it continually shows the fact that they are afraid of the people,” she said. Sean Hannity. “They’re afraid of us, they’re afraid that this question will be put to the people through their state legislatures so that the voice of the people will be heard.”

“We” apparently includes him, a person who is registered to defend the court’s decision in deerbut now seems to be reversing the trend to own its fellow libs.

And of course, Gabbard also attacked the leaker.

“This person is a thief who stole this information, released it with a very specific intent to try to incite protesters and intimidate and pressure our Supreme Court justices to take a political decision rather than a Constitution-based decision,” Gabbard said.

She called the act a “crime”, even though the consensus among jurists, it seems that this is not the case, even if the offense can be dismissed.

Gabbard has been a staple on Fox News primetime shows in recent months, where she has taken on hosts’ criticism of various liberals while firing shots at them on a variety of topics. I can remember only one notable exception to this pattern, which was a argument she had with Hannity about US military aid to Ukraine.

Gabbard has cultivated a role as a self-styled liberal who seems to enjoy telling conservatives how awful her side is. It’s not unique to her. There’s a small but noisy Substack/Twitter universe of liberals and ex-leftists who have taken to Trumpism or only espouse opinions they know their audience wants to hear, lest they make a hemorrhage to paid subscribers.

This kind of phenomenon is not exclusively the domain of disgruntled liberals, as the number of Never Trump conservatives on MSNBC will attest to, not to mention the Lincoln Project’s ridiculous popularity among the left. People of this ilk aren’t really listened to because of what they say, but because of who they are. After all, having someone on the other side of the political aisle trashing their own side can be incredibly rewarding for the target audience – and potentially lucrative for the person doing the trashing.

This is called audience capture. And unless Tulsi Gabbard has undergone some kind of radical and genuine shift in her views on, say, abortion, climate change and medicare for all – which, by the way, she said she’s backing — she’s just doing a minstrel show in front of Fox News court.
