So you’ve got the tickets and can’t wait to see the curtain go up. Here’s what to expect.

Ticket holders are no longer required to show proof of a Covid-19 vaccination before entering most Broadway theaters. (The Vivian Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center Theater still requires proof of vaccination, and the Roundabout Theater Company and Manhattan Theater Club will require proof of vaccination until the end of their current productions: “Birthday Candles,” at Roundabout’s American Airlines Theatre, and “How I Learned to Drive,” at the Samuel J. Friedman Theater at the MTC.) All audience members must wear masks that cover both the mouth and nose during performances, except when they are actively eat and drink, where permitted. This requirement will remain in effect in all theaters until at least May 31. Covid-19 security teams are in place to politely and firmly ensure compliance. your tickets, check the rules laid out – as with so many things in this pandemic, they may change at short notice.

The show you see may have its own advice on this, depending on the Covid safety measures which take a little longer. Although some theaters are better than others at getting people through quickly, you don’t have to arrive long in advance to join a huge line that winds its way down the sidewalk. If you don’t need to pick up your tickets, you can usually show up 10 minutes before the curtain. Arrive earlier if you want to stop at the restrooms, where the wait for women can be long.

Save yourself the headache and book a parking spot through one of the many apps, such as BestParking, ParkWhiz and SpotHero. Lincoln Center also offers its own reserved parking in line. However, allow more driving time than you think you will need, especially during vacations. Not all shows allow late arrivals. When they do, latecomers risk taking a shameful walk with an usher – and sneaking into their row in the dark.

One of the advantages of going through Times Square: plenty of outdoor seating. One downside: the jostled but torpid mass of humanity you’ll be part of. If you must navigate it, a single file is the way to go. Elsewhere, at the edge of the Theater District, foot traffic on the west side of Eighth Avenue moves faster than on the crowded east side. Likewise, walking north or south on Sixth Avenue and then west to your theater may be faster.

Bryant Park, one of Manhattan’s most beautiful oases, is just one block east of Times Square on 42nd Street at the corner of Sixth Avenue. A great place for picnics, shaded by trees, with an expansive lawn and plenty of bistro tables around the edges, it’s a relaxing place to catch your breath and, if you wish, buy something to eat. eat or drink.
