Fox News Contributor Sean Dufy suggested that the President that of Joe Biden focusing on a diverse firm has come at the cost of choosing the smartest advisors possible, because…a diverse set of advisors means you’re bringing in idiots?
White guys rule! Friendship?
The comment came at the end of an appearance on American Newsroom or Dana Perino and he discussed the challenges facing the Biden administration in the face of a delicate NATO alliance and a real threat of further attacks by Vladimir Poutine following The Russian invasion of Ukraine.
At the end of the interview, Duffy insisted he make one final point about the advisers Biden has brought together to help him navigate an understandably difficult foreign policy situation.
“You want the smartest people you have available in your administration to give you the best advice,” he said. “I don’t care about race, color, gender, sexual preference…if you’re transgender – Joe Biden is focused on those things as he fills his cabinet, but you want the smartest people.” Because the smartest people can’t come from a diverse set of candidates? Eh.
Duffy so clearly is not it care about the character traits of who Biden assembled, which he made sure to mention they are do not up to the task of giving the Commander-in-Chief sound advice.
“You know that from the Bush administration. George Bush brought in the smartest people,” Duffy insisted on George W. Bush former press officer.
These “smartest people” invaded Iraq under what appeared to be the false pretense of Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction, which have killed tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians. So “the smartest people” seems a remarkably subjective descriptor here.
But back to Duffy and his critique of diversity in Biden’s cabinet. “I don’t think Joe Biden has had that mentality, so I don’t know what kind of advice he gets to navigate Russia. Again, we have a lot of diversity, but do we have the best minds in place to give the best advice to get the best results and navigate Putin? »
Now, of course, Duffy and his team will probably hit back with something like “he said he doesn’t care” about the makeup of the cabinet, as if that exonerates his thinly-veiled attack on how people who look like or act differently than it is less than.
But it reminds me of the idea that when someone prefaces a critical comment with, “I’m not saying that ugly truth about you,” what they’re actually conveying is that same ugly truth.
Now, I’m not saying Sean Duffy just exhibited his intolerant ignorance about diversity. However, he would do well to refrain from calling people unintelligent because they represent the cultural mosaic that is America.
