The hosts of fox and friends had a civil but lively debate on by Jen Psaki believed emotional reaction to what she sees as anti-LGTBQ+ bills that could lead to bullying. Peter Hegseth literally laughed mockingly at Psaki’s tears, but Ainsley Earhardt quickly came to the defense of the press officer.

Fox & Friends aired part of a clip of Psaki and Jessica Yellin discuss a series of bills to limit gender-based kindergarten curriculum to third-grade children in Florida, one of which was signed into law in Florida and derided by critics as the “Don’t Say Gay” law, although these words do not appear in the actual bill.

Yellin asked Psaki if this was a cynical corner issue, or as she put it “an organized political attempt to create a corner issue ahead of the 2024 campaign midterms? Kind of like how gay marriage was weaponized in 2004?”

Psaki condemned the bills in question, calling them “political games and attempts at harsh and cruel laws, or laws that we see in some states like Florida, that do not reflect the country that opposes communities. LGBTQ+. It’s not what we see in the data, it’s not factual, and it’s not where things stand. This is a political corner issue and an attempt to win a culture war.

The press secretary then got emotional when she mentioned the impact of the legislation on children:

“They are doing this in a harsh and cruel way towards a community of children, in particular. I’m going to get emotional about this issue because it’s horrible! But it is the children who are being bullied, and all of these leaders are taking action to hurt them, hurt their lives, and hurt their families! And you look at some of these laws in these states that go after parents who are in romantic relationships, who have children. It’s completely outrageous! Sorry, this is a problem that is driving me crazy.

Later in the podcast, she explained how a theoretical child with, say, two fathers could feel ostracized because he or she had same-sex parents.

Part of the interview was broadcast on fox and friends which was immediately followed by Pete Hegseth channeling his inner Nelson Muntz with a “Ha!” which some may have heard as a nice tone of intimidation. Steve Doocy followed by saying “I’m not sure exactly why she’s upset,” then explained the specifics of Florida law as if no child with same-sex parents can feel like strangers.

While Doocy was nuanced in his comments, Hegseth played the role of, well, the most harder critique of PSAKI’s open empathy.

“This Jen Psaki clip is a perfect encapsulation of the left in America today,” smiled Hegseth with his unique self-satisfaction. “Totally described Bill, completely emotional about something she misinterpreted and saying it’s a corner issue.”

“It’s not a question of which corner Ron DeSantis try to use. He tries to empower parents and children to maintain the family unit and have these conversations in the privacy of their own home, as opposed to a teacher, because many of these parents are never told,” said he continued. His line “Keeping family together” certainly got some amens from Fox News viewers.

But let Ainsley Earhardt defend the empathy displayed by Ms Psaki, saying: “The flip side is that she says we don’t want to hurt our children and we don’t want bullying. Nobody wants that, nobody wants kids hurt.

“Talking about gender when you’re a freshman won’t lead to bullying,” Hegseth replied. “How does that help the situation?”

“People in Florida who support this bill are saying ‘she’s absolutely right,'” Earhardt explained. “We don’t want that. We want them to live in butterflies and rainbows for as long as they can. And then they can talk about college sex when they have these questions and know what it is.

Earhardt is a devout Christian who she’s very outspoken about on the show, and she deserves credit for putting her faith above partisan politics by showing grace and love for people of all kinds despite coworkers. encouraging the maintenance of a family unit, as Hegseth insisted was of great value.

Hegseth is on his third marriageby the way, having married a fellow Fox News producer with whom he had an affair while his second wife was at home caring for her very young children.
