Seasoned real estate brokers Jessica Fields and Brad Bateman thought they’d seen every type of listing imaginable – until they were tasked with sale of 1019 Bushwick Avenue.

Stepping into the Brooklyn mansion, which was built in 1900 and just hit the market for $2.7 million, was like slipping through a portal in time, agents told the Post.

A dazzling array of relics filled the lush interior of the more than 4,000 square foot home – from antique televisions and classic busts to century-old stoves and dolls.

The house, officers said, looked less like a residence and more like a staging area for a Bushwick edition of PBS’s “Antique Roadshow.”

“The house feels like it’s straight out of a history book,” said Fields, Compass’ listing agent. “It has been largely intact since it was built in 1900.”

From quirky pearly pink bathroom sinks to hand-painted wall murals to old saltwater taffy canisters, the seven-bedroom, five-bathroom space had managed to buck a century of fashion trends. of design.

Fields said much of that consistency stems from the fact that the house has remained in the same family since 1937.

A recent tour revealed treasures all over the place. A rare first edition copy of Betty Smith’s “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” from 1943 was hiding in a pile of old children’s books. A row of treasured vintage dolls – including figures like Pinocchio and Snow White – peered down from a high shelf in another room. A cleaning program – almost a century old – remained affixed to the inside of a closet door. Tuesdays, he decreed, were reserved for a thorough cleaning of the “music room, solarium and hall.”

A rear section of the house had once been used as a doctor’s office, officers said. Their first exploration revealed vintage desks, examination tables and a stack of dusty patient diaries.

Looking up the address, Fields and Bateman learned that the mansion was designed by Ulrich Huberty, the son of a successful German-American businessman named Peter Huberty.

The current owners plan to curate and eventually sell the antiques and ephemera – most of which have been gathered and stored out of sight for the sale process.

The scion was considered a child prodigy of the Gilded Age, having helped design many of the borough’s significant landmarks, including the Prospect Park Boathouse and the Williamsburgh Savings Bank.

Hubert created the Bushwick Avenue house for his parents and it was completed in 1900. But the young architectural star – and follower of the City Beautiful Movement – would suddenly die 10 years later, aged just 33.

Fields and Bateman said they hope the end buyer will retain the resilient spirit of the home, which was considered a landmark by the city in 2017.
