Reality TV on behalf of Julia Child, and with the endorsement of the Julia Child Foundation for Food and Culinary Arts, begins Monday, March 14 with “The Julia Child Challenge” on the Food Network (streaming on Discovery+). The last of eight cooks still stirring the pot after six episodes will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Paris to attend Le Cordon Bleu, the school where Mrs. Child learned how to whip egg whites and what to do when you drop the chicken On the ground. Each week, on a set designed to replicate Mrs. Child’s pegboard-lined kitchen in Cambridge, Mass. – now in the Smithsonian – contestants from several states must prepare a dish that Ms. Child is known for, starting with sole meunière. They must also prepare their own dish. Three judges, led by chef Antonia Lofaso, will select a weekly winner and a contestant will be voted out of the kitchen. This routine repeats the following week until the winner is named in the final episode.
“The Julia Child Challenge,” Mondays, 9 p.m. EDT, Food Network, Discovery+.
