Two people who were at the camp died at the scene and two others died in a hospital, according to a statement from the Salem Police Department.

Two other people from the camp were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The driver, Enrique Rodriguez Jr., 24, was hospitalized and later arrested on four counts of first degree manslaughter, one count of second and third degree assault and six counts of reckless endangerment, said the police.

Mr. Rodriguez was being held at the Marion County Jail. It was unclear if he had an attorney.

Police said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, which happened around 2am. Mr. Rodriguez, who was the only person in the car, veered off a street and pinned two people under the car, which police described as a “two-door sports coupe.”

Police did not release additional details, including the names of the victims and the condition of the driver.

Josh Lair, chief operating officer of Be Bold Street Ministries, a Salem nonprofit that helps homeless people, said Sunday he knew the victims but would not divulge details to them. topic.
