Is it really New York Fashion Week? Many designers ditched this one, and for a while the holiday calendar looked pretty bleak. Thankfully, invitations started rolling in late last week. Here are some highlights from last night and the weekend.

The Down Town Association, a former Edwardian lodge in the Financial District, welcomed another of New York’s favorite sons on Monday: LaQuan Smith. The Queens-born fashion designer threw a big party on the top floor of the club, after showing off his collection downstairs. Instead of port and cigars, there were marijuana blunts, an endless Don Julio, and a performance by Saucy Santana.

Opportunity: A rowdy after party at 60 Pine Street for LaQuan Smith’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection, featuring sponsors like Nordstrom and liquor brands.

Bedroom: A maze of party venues, with DJs (including Mazurbate and Rich Medina), open bars, a taco buffet, Instagram-ready backdrops, pool tables and colonial-era taxidermy to keep you going the festivities.

Waiting for: Everyone was on the lookout for Julia Fox, but she was out after her parade. The fabulously dressed crowd included rapper Coi Leray, models Duckie Thot and Emira D’spain, actors Nicole Ari Parker and Charles Melton, and many influencers. Many looks were served: flowing bodycon dresses, miles of vintage fur, leopard prints in all shapes and sizes, and more color than a psychedelic trip.

Mood: It was as close to a house party as a sponsored event could get. “It’s what New York is,” said Mr. Smith, who wore a tight black turtleneck and red-tinted glasses. “I love seeing the kids come out. My whole existence is about representing New York to the fullest. It’s a moment to celebrate right now, especially for black excellence and black people and creativity.”

It wouldn’t be New York Fashion Week if Christian Siriano didn’t throw some kind of party. This time, he took over the Blond on Saturday night, taking a late fashion walk with a group of models and semi-celebrities.

Opportunity: An after-party to celebrate its fall 2022 collection, presented earlier today on the lobby level of the Empire State Building.

Bedroom: The Blond, the second-floor lounge at the 11 Howard Hotel, which hosted back-to-back parties for much of this fashion week.

Waiting for: Coco Rocho (who appeared on the show earlier), Alicia Silverstone, MJ Rodriguez, Aquaria, Ava Max, Leigh Lazark and many mid-level fashion actors.

mood: Describe your collection in three words. “Victorian, Matrix, metaverse,” Mr. Siriano said, holding court in a corner booth, surrounded by supporters and bottles of liquor. “Sometimes we feel like we’re in the Victorian era, and sometimes we’re in the Matrix. Is this the real world or not? Is this digital or is this real? It’s kind of the purpose of the collection. Is that the reality now? “Sort of, but not really,” he added.

Also on Saturday, Document Journal, a fashion, arts and culture magazine known for its high-profile contributors (Virgil Abloh, Hedi Slimane, Grace Coddington), threw a raucous party in a 19th-century chapel, filled with models. , European fashion executives and camera-shy celebrities.

Opportunity: The winter 2022 issue of Document, with Kristen Stewart on the cover, photographed by Theo Wenner.

Bedroom: The Chapel Bar, a members-only bar attached to Fotografiska, the Swedish Museum of Photography on Park Avenue South.

Waiting for: Nick Vogelson, Document editor; and many models including Lulu Tenney, Chloé Véro, Lara Mullen and Naomi Chin Wing. Amy Schumer, Selena Gomez and Cara Delevingne were also spotted but declined to be photographed.

mood“It’s too bright in here, I’m going to dim the lights,” Mr Vogelson said around midnight, as the DJ known as Baltra turned up the music.
