Former president donald trump called to “boycott and cancel” DirectTV on reports that they plan to deplatform the fanatical right-wing OAN of his network.
Some may wonder how come Trump can call to cancel an outlet after vehemently complaining about the evils of “cancellation culture” and still be taken seriously? The answer is that it really can’t. This level of hypocrisy is an age-old tradition in the world of Trump rhetoric where truth and lies intertwine without any consequences from his most loyal supporters.
Trump released a statement via the SaveAmericaPac newsletter that read:
If AT&T/DirecTV cancels OAN, I hope everyone will boycott and cancel DirecTV. It’s a very popular channel, far more popular than most would realize, and they’re treated horribly by the radical left crazies who run the networks. Instead of being allowed to grow, their voice is muffled. Don’t let that happen, cancel DirecTV. If you feel aggrieved by what this communist movement is doing, cancel DirecTV!
Trump’s comments echo remarks he made at a recent rally in Arizona a few weeks ago, where the former president spoke out against the withdrawal from the network of one of the biggest country’s television providers.
“Woke leaders, I don’t know what they’re doing,” Trump said. “They have so much debt. (Parent company of DirecTV) AT&T is a company in great difficulty. And they need AT&T, and AT&T says they may no longer agree to carry this network which works very well. You know why? Because people told them not to.
The former president then appealed to his supporters to boycott AT&T, saying ‘So maybe what we should do is not use AT&T,’ Trump said – in front of a cheering crowd . Trump went on to praise OAN as a “great network” where “you really get the truth.”
An OAN reporter was recently criticized for falsely claiming that Covid-19 vaccines cause your death. This is the same guy who called for the execution of the “thousands of election workers” who he claims baselessly helped steal the 20202 election, which he later rebuffed.
So yes, OAN is not telling the truth as Trump has falsely claimed.
