republican senator Rick Scott of Florida unveiled an 11-point plan that it hopes will serve as a de facto Republican agenda in case the GOP takes over the House and Senate midway through this year.
Minority Leader Mitch McConnell did not present such a proposal for his party, so Scott seems to be going ahead on his own.
Most of 59 pages agenda is the standard Republican rate. But on page 35, the reader is informed that under Scott’s plan, most Americans would have to pay more federal income taxes. One of the bullet points on this page reads:
All Americans should pay some income tax to stay in the game, even if it’s a small amount. Currently, more than half of Americans pay no income tax.
As you can see, the plan clearly states that all Americans would be required to pay income tax. And since most Americans do not currently pay this tax, most Americans would therefore see their income taxes increased under this proposal.
Sean Hannity interviewed Scott on Tuesday night and at one point asked him about the Majority Leader by Chuck Schumer (precise) claim that Scott’s plan includes a tax hike for many Americans.
“Have you seen Chuckie Schumer say your plan is to raise taxes on more than half of Americans,” Hannity said. “I didn’t see that in your plan. Did you have that in your plan? Was it in invisible ink in the copy I received? »
“Of course not,” Scott replied. “No, Chuck Schumer… wants to raise taxes for everything, when as governor I cut taxes and fees 100 times. We are the opposite. But Chuck Schumer, he went all-in to take every penny you got.
After lying about his plan’s tax hike, Scott blamed Schumer’s “bad deeds” for the state of the country.
As Aaron Blake underline in the Washington Post“The language of the plan itself effectively acknowledges that it is advocating an increase in income tax for ‘more than half of Americans’ – a group of people whose incomes are extremely low. And in fact, the number of Americans this would apply to has soared during the pandemic.
