A year ago, we were all exhausted. We were all tired of the tyrannical White House autocrat, his clumsy crew of racists, and his infuriating progeny of supporters. We were tired of watching The Real WhiteHousewives of DC We couldn’t stand the bickering and nonsensical word burritos thrust upon us by a president, who honestly asked with all his heart, if there was a way to bring the light and disinfectant “inside” the body to clean our lungs like picnic tables.

We rushed to the polls on election day because the house was on fire and we just wanted to leave. Because of the year we had, America had Joe Biden, a flawed candidate. And yes, while I’ve called his administration The Weekend at Biden, who among us hasn’t cracked a “Biden’s barely alive” joke once or three times. After 2020, we were ready to vote for a homeless broom, a frog, or anyone who didn’t dye their hair and skin the color of sunburn.

And while Biden is nowhere near as tidy as the stench left behind, I think we all need to collectively acknowledge that Biden has smoothed the situation over and in the process sold America a bogus invoice of goods on at least a major problem: the cancellation of student loans. .

I think it was the German philosopher Immanuel Kant who noted, and I’m paraphrasing here: “Debt forgiveness is essential to homeownership and a robust economy, as student loans continue to stumble.”

And you know who knew that? Biden. In March 2020, he tweeted that we needed to forgive $10,000 per person in student loan debt.

What he’s done since then is act like Congress is the reason he can’t budge. I know this game well. It’s what I do with my 4 year old son as he struggles with his ice cream addiction. I act like, if it were up to me, he’d be swimming in popsicles – but sadly, my hands are tied because “Mom, said no”. I usually give in to my son’s demands.

You know who else gave in too? Biden. In August, he extended the suspension of the student loan for six months. But now, well, “Mom said no.” Come on January 31, it’s over. The ruthless machine that is student loans is relaunched. Student loans have been on hold since March 2020, and the Biden administration — you know the supposedly good guys — is the one insisting on restarting it. The president literally refuses to watch what happens outside of restarting the endless money dump that is loan repayment.

Currently the coronavirus has gone to get its big sister to beat us up, inflation does what inflation does, and the Grinch works hard to dirty the docks to ruin Christmas!

And did I mention nobody wants that? But don’t listen to me, let’s hear this from a magazine that’s actually about money issues, Forbes:

In one letter In Biden, the Student Borrower Protection Center, a nonprofit student loan advocacy organization, joined 200 organizations (including the ACLU, NAACP, and American Federation of Teachers) in urging Biden to postpone the restart of loan repayments. federal student loans.

And while I know these senators are progressive (which is a dirty word in congressional circles), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio -Cortez (DN. Y.) practically begged the president to extend student loan repayment if he didn’t reduce his student loan debt. Again, from Forbes:

Senators say restarting student loan repayments will cause significant financial stress as a result of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Specifically, they cite a Roosevelt Institute study that shows that not deferring student loan repayments beyond January 31, 2022 will cost student borrowers $85 billion. They argue that 9 million defaulting student borrowers could be subject to wage garnishment and other methods of debt collection if student loan repayments resume. In addition to severely hurting the economy, the senators note that Black and Latino households would face a disproportionate burden due to the resumption of student loan repayments.

Blacks and Latinx people are twice as likely to default on their loans, and that was long before the coronavirus. And it’s not because black and Latinx people are irresponsible, it’s because they’re college poor, and college poor are more likely to take out loans to pay for college and have a harder time reimburse them when they enter the labor market.

According to a study by Consumer Financial Protection Bureau), “More than 90% of African American students and 72% of Latino students take out loans to attend college, compared to 66% of white students.”

We’d be here all day if I delved into systemic racism and how it keeps blacks and browns from getting well-paying jobs even though they’re as skilled as their white counterparts. This means that parents earn less money and therefore there is less money to save for their children for college, which means that black and brown students are borrowing money at a higher rate. .

But Biden is on a mission, and apparently that mission is to fuck us all. The machine is the machine, and it must get going again at all costs, even if it means screwing up everyone he promised not to do. Because it’s politics, and everything is allowed in politics. He went back on all his student loan promises so much that the ghost of Michael Jackson is jealous.

Biden could wipe out $10,000 in student loan debt per person in a jiffy, and that’s not hyperbole. He could sign an executive order making it that way, but instead he scoffs because he’s an old-school Democrat who still believes he needs to appeal to Republicans. He hasn’t realized yet that it’s Jets versus sharks and “When you are a Jet; you reduce student loan debt” or whatever the song says.

Side note: I don’t know who runs the student loan program, but this machine stays busy. With the exception of Bed Bath & Beyond, no one is in my inbox more than the student loan department reminding me that in February my student loan payment is due. Please forward my information to the student loans department emails if I ever go missing as they won’t stop until I’m found.

Biden had the opportunity to turn things around by pushing a Democratic agenda down the throats of those same politicians who secretly backed the insurgents on January 6.

the the president talks about kicking everyone’s ass but never does, and now those student loans are about to crush ours.
