Jesse Watters in prime time debuted on Fox News Monday night. The new show replaces Fox News in prime time in the 7 p.m. timeslot, where a rotating roster of guest hosts played after a great upheaval to the network about a year ago.

jesse watters is also co-host of The five and former host of the primetime weekend show Watters’ worldthe last episode of which aired on January 15. This is his first solo foray into hosting a daily television show.

“A famous man once said, ‘You don’t know where you’re going if you don’t know where you’re going’,” he began his opening monologue. “And that famous man was me. So what we’re gonna do tonight is tell you where Jesse Watters in prime time Go. But before we do that, let’s talk about where we are now.

He declared, “The American people have run out of patience” and proceeded to spout a litany of familiar grievances: greedy leaders; China; the opioid crisis; the big cats of Wall Street; Covid lockdowns; cancel culture; crooked politicians.

Watters said the show will be about “connecting with people and saying it straight,” before playing a montage of him doing mindless interviews of people on the street asking New Yorkers what topics they want. see discussed: systematic obstruction; criminality; casinos; “smells in the air”. Among their favorite guests were: Ron DeSantis; Kevin Hart; Kyle Rittenhouse; Jeanine Pirro.

“Just know this,” Watters told viewers. “We have a sense of purpose and a sense of humor. No one says news has to be boring. And I promise you this show won’t be boring.

Watters also provided a phone number and invited viewers to send her their thoughts. At the end of the show, he said the number had already received 1,100 texts, some of which he had read on air.

The first guest was Tucker-Carlson, the most-watched prime-time host on cable news. A host of Tucker Carlson tonightimmediately following Prime timecongratulated him on the new gig.

Over the next few segments, Watters introduced familiar Fox News guests. Kellyanne Conway, Dana Loechand Stephen Miller, who performed their greatest hits on the topics of the day. Also shown were the unvaccinated Sarah Pallinwho spoke out against Covid-19 mandates as she joined the show remotely after positive test for Covid.

Greg Gutfeld and Dana Perino – two of Watters’ co-hosts The five – joined him for the final segment.

A single premiere episode doesn’t make a show, but aside from the sleek new set, most of the inaugural offering of Jesse Watters in prime time played like its pre-Watters predecessor.

This show has generally underperformed its primetime Fox News peers. But now that the timeslot has a permanent host with a stronger, more familiar personality, that should bode well for the show’s ability to attract more viewers.

But it would be a mistake for the program to rely on the same stable of guests who appear so frequently on other Fox News shows. A successl Jesse Watters in prime time would involve the host cultivating a longer version of the on-air character that served him well on The five – a punchy, fun-loving, albeit smug iteration of itself that often tangles with the show’s rotating symbolic liberal of the day.

Watters has worked for Fox News for two decades and is only 43 years old. It probably has the time and the leeway to experiment and find out what works, without being afraid to venture outside the realm of regular Fox News programming.

Some unconventional guests couldn’t hurt either — at least, unconventional for Fox News.
