There is something to spend a whole day with your daughters at home. Things come out, love is transmitted, laughter is shared and there is a warmth that comes from all this friction.

“Chillin ‘, alright ?!” begins at Issa’s apartment, where Molly, Kelli, and Tiffany met to start a relaxing day for Molly, who has been stressed out from her mother’s health crisis. They had planned to meet at home and then head to a spa, but when a pipe bursts at the spa, they are forced to stay home until dinner.

Disappointed, the girls start drinking and forget about the spa. Tiffany starts playing “Last Night”, by Diddy and Keyshia Cole, Molly starts dancing and pretends her bottle of wine is a microphone. Issa suggests they play Questions in a Hat, where anonymous questions are thrown into a hat and randomly selected by players, but Kelli is skeptical. “You know the power he has,” she said grimly.

Questions in a Hat is less a game than an icebreaker exercise, designed to put the mind at ease while exposing vulnerabilities. Even though the girls are friends and grew closer throughout “Insecure,” there are still things that need to be taken away from them, like when Molly admits to never seeing “Love Jones” (guilty!) Even if she bonded with Issa on the film. Or when Tiffany admits to thinking about her husband when she masturbates.

When deeper questions start to arise, Issa explains that she and Nathan aren’t well placed. The girls listen and check Issa. That’s what the sorority is for: to let you know that yes, maybe you’re inconsistent and maybe your guy isn’t wrong. Ladies are perfect for that – funny, calm, and just tough enough.

Issa says she’s ready to start over, to give up what she has with Nathan, but no one believes her – neither her daughters nor the viewers. She also admits to feeling bad because Nathan didn’t say “I love you” to her.

Molly then draws the “If you could do one, what would it be?” »Question.

Issa has been thinking about her own overhaul since she noticed Lawrence had returned to Los Angeles. She considered contacting him for the shutdown, she said, which she had not shared with her friends.

“I just wish I figured out what I wanted to do sooner,” she answers Molly’s question.

Later, as Issa’s friends rank her lovers – Daniel for victory – she tells the girls that she saw Lawrence, Condola, and Elijah in the hospital. Condola and Lawrence seemed to be doing well, so Issa assumed they had rekindled their affair. But Kelli lets him know that things were not going well with them at Tiffany’s child’s birthday party.

“Truly?” Issa responds, as if she’s trapped in a hot car and a window has just magically opened. She tries to convey what she feels to her friends.

“You made the right choice,” reassures Molly.

“Sometimes it’s not about making the right choice, it just has to make sense to you,” says Tiffany.

Issa’s eyes light up. Tiffany’s comment validates her feelings – she’s looking for a reason to come back to who she knows and what feels safe. Things are fragile with Nathan and this instability can be exhausting. Sometimes you just need to be loved and supported.

Once the girls decide to stay the night, they decorated the balcony with rugs and throws and made libations for each other. When Dro, the most messy of all “uncertain” men, calls Molly, Issa sees it as an excuse to call Lawrence, though she has no plans for what to say. Molly grabs her phone and hangs up.

“Girl, you know I love you, don’t you?” She asks, then reminds Issa of the previous discussion about her inconsistency. “You do it, for example, how is that going to help you? “

As Issa considered turning back to Lawrence, the man himself tried to mend his relationship with Condola. Issa hasn’t realized – or chooses not to consider – that Lawrence has his own world to deal with right now. A baby doesn’t care about Issa’s need for closure or even what Lawrence wants at all. It is not like it used to be ; starting over for Issa now means leaving behind security totems like Lawrence.

The next morning Nathan calls him and tells him that he loves her and that he knows he can be avoidant and childish. (I can’t confirm that calls like this happen in real life.) He promises to do better and she hangs up with a smile on her face. Then Lawrence returns his call from the day before. She does not pick up because she no longer needs a blanket.

While there is still a part of me that would secretly love to see Issa and Lawrence reunite in the series finale, what I really want is for Issa to choose herself and the things she wants by. love, not out of desperation. I want her to relax, okay?
