According to restaurant owner Ricardo Varona, Crypto Street accepts payment in all digital assets, including memecoins and so-called “Shitcoins,” and dogedogs have been “quite popular” so far.

On a December 29 interview With the Tampa Bay Times, Varona said his 24-year-old son first introduced him to crypto a few years ago, but was not a fan of the industry at the time. Over time, however, he became familiar with the concept of crypto assets and first considered starting a restaurant franchise that accepted crypto payments.

After the pandemic struck and various spending and supply chain issues became apparent, Varona said he changed his plan to launch a single crypto-themed venue as opposed to one that accepted just crypto.

“I kept thinking that I wanted to do something different, something new, and I kept thinking about crypto … I calculated what it would be like to do something new , sever ties with the franchise and started working on Crypto Street. ”

“So far the youngest love it and keep coming back. Along with the older crowd there are a lot of people who have similar interests and stories to mine where their son or grandson taught them something. So that creates pretty cool conversations, ”he added.

Varona said the restaurant can accept encrypted payments through a merchant or peer-to-peer account directly to its wallet.

“So far we have had a few transactions in crypto, although a lot of people are interested in using it. There are also people who have just sold it or who rather want to keep it for the long term. But a lot of people understand that its use adds value, ”he said.

Five stars for the food or the idea?

Over its short history, Crypto Street Restaurant has been rated favorably online so far, with a total of three five-star reviews on Yelp and eight five-star reviews on Google Reviews.

“Pretty cool place! Excellent decor, great menu options and super friendly staff. The owner is on top of everything and will be happy to show you around the themed restaurant and explain how the crypto payment system will work, “says elite reviewer Yelper” Eduardo F.

This isn’t the first time beloved Dogecoin has been affiliated with hot dogs, after US meat-making giant Oscar Mayer auctioned a single pack of “Hot Doge Wieners” via eBay in August.
