Welcome. Let’s talk about Leftovers. It’s the day after Thanksgiving, and while I can’t wait to spend the day with people I haven’t seen in two years, I might also have been waiting for Leftovers Friday, which is really the first day of the Leftovers Weekend. Hope you have served yourself a sandwich with all the toppings as you read this.
If Thanksgiving fare isn’t your thing, or you’ve had enough of it, I hope you dig into something else. Joan Nathan Chicken Stew with Matzo Balls, may be? Stouffer’s Inspired Mac & Cheese?
A holiday weekend is a great time to catch up on reading, and you’ll have no problem finding something to suit you in our office’s annual compilation of books. 100 remarkable books. (I have Jo Ann Beard’s “Festival Days” on the bridge.)
The 1970s decor by Paul Thomas Anderson “Licorice Pizza” is in theaters in New York and Los Angeles, and you can see the animated film “Encanto” around the country. For those who prefer the comfort of the sofa, Jeremy Renner plays in the new Marvel series, “Hawkeye”, on Disney +. If you have a bunch of people with different tastes looking for something to watch together, this could be the thing.
Hope you have at least a chance this weekend to catch up with someone in depth, to hear what they’ve been up to and how they’re doing. Get the stories of others. Tell them yours. Holidays are milestones, taking stock times, where we measure our lives by what has happened since that time on the calendar last year. Or, maybe, that moment two years ago.
Your list of lists.
PS
Tell us.
Thanks to everyone who sent their catharsis songs, the songs that have been offered to them release great emotions lately. Send yours to athome@nytimes.com and we’ll put them all together in a long expiration of a playlist. (Check out our previous playlists here and here.) Or just drop us a line about what’s on your mind. Were At home and away. We will read every letter sent. As always, below you’ll find more ideas for leading a full and cultivated life, at home and beyond. I’ll see you next week.
