For more than a month, Britney Spears’ lawyer has been asking the former head of his estate for basic financial information as part of a review of the nearly 14 years of his tutelage. Lawyers for the firm largely refused.

Recently filed court documents show that a battle over financial disclosures is unfolding even though guardianship has been terminated by a judge Friday.

Ms Spears’ attorney, Mathew S. Rosengart, said he plans to continue the financial investigation regardless of the trusteeship status. Ms Spears’ estate is estimated at nearly $ 60 million, but her legal team wants to investigate whether any money was mismanaged during the guardianship.

Financial disputes are expected to be dealt with at a court hearing scheduled for January 19.

Tri Star Sports & Entertainment Group, a company run by Louise M. Taylor that provides artists and athletes with accounting and financial services, resigned last fall after serving as the business director of the field for more than a decade.

In September, Mr Rosengart asked Tri Star lawyers a central question: How much money did Tri Star pay by Ms Spears or her estate during the guardianship?

In a heated email exchange, lawyers for Tri Star repeatedly replied that the answer was in court accounts the firm had already shared, but would not provide a number.

In documents filed last week, Rosengart accused Tri Star of “continuing to block”. Lawyers for Tri Star and Ms Spears declined to comment.

On October 1, Mr. Rosengart issued subpoenas to Tri Star and its employee Robin Greenhill, who worked closely on Ms. Spears’ account. The discovery and deposition requests relate to Tri Star’s compensation during guardianship, the business entities of the estate and communications about the creation of the guardianship, Ms. Spears’ medical treatment and any oversight of the pop singer.

Tri Star attorney Scott A. Edelman asked the court to limit subpoenas to cover only a narrow dispute over the accounting of the estate in 2019. In the file, Mr. Edelman said Tri Star had passed on his books to the estate. current entrepreneur and that the cabinet would not produce before 2019 accounting documents already approved by the court.

Also at issue in the legal exchange is whether Tri Star has a copy of its written contract with the estate and whether Tri Star was a trustee, which would generally have required the firm to put its client’s interest ahead of the his.

A statement from Ms Greenhill submitted to the court said that “no one at Tri Star is aware of a hidden electronic monitoring device placed in Ms Spears’ bedroom”. The New York Times first reported allegations in the documentary “Controlling Britney SpearsThat security firm Black Box Security was monitoring Ms. Spears’ phone, including her communications with her lawyer, and secretly recording it in her bedroom.

Two weeks ago, a court case disclosed that in August, Mr Rosengart served Ms Spears’ father, James P. Spears, with requests for further discovery and a sworn statement, including how much money he received from his daughter’s estate during the guardianship . Mr. Spears was suspended as overseer of his estate by the court on September 29.

A lawyer for Mr Spears then filed court documents indicating that he would cooperate unconditionally in the transfer of all files to Ms Spears’ lawyer.

But in comments to media after the dismissal hearing on Friday, Mr Rosengart said Mr Spears did not respond to any requests for documents and twice failed to appear for his testimony.
