Welcome. I’ll admit I’m drawn to the new “dreamy looking cans, in shades of sherbet and pastel” of expensive wellness drinks that are proliferating in the beverage aisle at my local market. I bet they look great in a sun-bleached picture on Instagram, but “do they transcend stress and open a portal to peace”? Dani Blum looked into this, just in time for happy hour.

Good Friday, again. Temperance is on the rise and with her, entire stores dedicated to zero-proof drinks. This 2018 T Magazine story advises against using the picturesque “mocktail” coat rack refer to non-alcoholic mixed drinks, which sounds like good advice. If you prefer your refreshments around 5:00 p.m., Eric Asimov has some tips for good greek reds and some thoughts on Chablis versus other Chardonnays. Mark the end of the week somehow, even if it’s just shutting down your computer and taking a few deep breaths. Small rituals.

“Succession” returns Sunday evening. James Poniewozik sets the tone “both an addicting spectator sport and one of television’s great horror stories” and says the new season is “scabrously funny”. Mia Hansen-Love’s new movie, “Bergman Island”, looks like a great choice if you are planning to go to the theater. Otherwise, Hillary Rodham Clinton and Louise Penny’s new thriller, “State of Terror” it sounds pretty cinematic. Sarah Lyall calls this a “romp”.

Here’s something to ponder: the “home” and “outside” balance of your weekend. It’s a mix (not a mocktail) that you have to recalibrate from week to week. I read with interest the story of the woman who woke up to find a meteorite “the size of a large man’s fist” had crashed through its ceiling and landed next to his pillow. I wrote a few days ago about the appeal of metaphor to make sense of our lives, and I won’t dwell on this, but if you were inclined, you could look at this story in different ways. Are there enough home adventures to keep you entertained forever? Are the heavens beckoning you out and far? Is the world shifted, misaligned stars? Do you have to book a ride on a rocket? You decide.

What is the best book that has been published in the last 125 years? The Times Book Review invites your nominations on the occasion of its near centenary. Yes, that’s the word for a 125th birthday – try using it in conversation this weekend.
