As the father of two very sociable young girls, there have been many horrible times since March 2020 thanks to our irrational response to the pandemic, which largely targeted children, the demographic group that is least vulnerable to the real virus. None was more memorably infuriating than last Halloween, when my three-year-old daughter embarked on the first of these vacations she will remember, and my eight-year-old daughter still had high hopes for what will end. probably by being the last round. -or-treat that she will really care about.

Halloween in 2020, despite landing on a Saturday that should have made it special, was a horror show in every way. CDC “Discouraged” Traditional Halloween Celebrations. Local health officials here in Southern California actually “canceled” Halloween, before, in response to public outrage, simply reverting to the CDC’s condemnation, leaving children’s vacations trapped in frightening limbo.

Without any clear determination as to whether it was a “go” or “no go”, my children went, as they always have, to their grandparents’ neighborhood in the suburbs of Los Angeles, where the community traditionally goes all out, attracting hundreds of costumed families from miles away. We knew, and prepared our kids for reality, that there wouldn’t be the normal festivities, but, with almost half of the homes fully decorated for Halloween, there was no reason to believe it would be a utter disaster… but it was.

Not only were there only a handful of costumed children on the generally crowded streets, about 70% of the houses with decorations on display and their lights on had no candy to give away, and about half of them they never even answered their door, or almost literally slammed it in the face of my distraught daughters. While some of the houses were quite nice and tried their best to make up for the rest of the terrified neighborhood, my daughters will never forget so many people who literally treat them as if they are somehow a deadly threat to their health.

To be clear, it wasn’t the worst thing that ever happened or will happen to my daughters, but it was the pointlessness of destroying something that they will look forward to only a handful of times in their lives that was such a cross-dresser. Fortunately, I think I was probably more affected by the rather depressing experience than them.

We’re now only days away from Halloween 2021, and it looks like things are going to be very different this year, both here in California and across the country. Lord Anthony Fauci graciously blessed us all with the sure sign for this year’s trick-or-treat, and it seems that while things are still not absolutely perfect (I’m sure in liberal areas many houses will still be shy to participate, or will use the pandemic as a practical excuse not to), this will be much better than in 2020.

But why?

I’m so glad it looks like my daughters won’t have to endure another Halloween nightmare that has nothing to do with ghosts or goblins. However, it is quite puzzling, and instructive, to consider on what possible basis the “experts” have given the green light this year, having done all they could to cut off Halloween skeletal legs just a short time ago. twelve months. On paper, there is little logic to this radical shift in focus, unless the base is primarily political.

It may surprise even some keen news watchers to know that this week the USA averages almost exactly the same number of ‘new cases’ of Covid per day as we did last year, with around 400 more deaths per day (year on year, California is doing a little worse in this comparison than even the country). The data discrepancies are much more dramatic if you consider the circumstances on the very day that every Halloween ‘decision’ was publicly communicated, with more than TWICE more new cases and deaths per day when Lord Fauci gave his blessing. this year, compared to when the CDC started breaking the jack-o-lantern metaphor at the end of September 2020.

Then there is the presence of the Delta variant, which we have been told is more dangerous for children. This would obviously be a big factor against the conclusion that Halloween in 2021 is safer than it would have been in 2020.

Obviously, the counter-argument is that in 2020 we haven’t had anyone vaccinated, but this is where this situation gets really interesting. Clearly, the vast majority of trick-or-treaters, because they are under 12, are NOT vaccinated. In addition, we know that vaccinees are still able to contract and spread the virus.

Given the numbers, it’s hard to argue that Halloween was less safe in 2020 than in 2021. Now, if there were any excuses for causing unnecessary pain to children in 2020, you could argue that we have learned. that the “experts” had no idea what they were doing at the time and just correct their mistakes (you can make a very similar argument about restrictions on outdoor sports crowds), but unfortunately, no matter how many times the “expert” class gets it wrong, the words “we’re sorry we screwed up” are very clearly not in their vocabulary.

So, without excuses and with little basis for such a dramatic policy change, we must conclude that this decision was primarily political. At the end of October 2020, we were days away from a presidential election, and it is highly doubtful that even a single person in power who sabotaged Halloween was not also an ardent critic of then-President Trump. Now, with President Biden safe in power, those same liberal activists disguised as “health experts” have suddenly decided that it’s okay for children to knock on a stranger’s door and interact with them outside. for 5 to 10 seconds.

No matter how hard the media tries to ignore it, if you wait long enough, the truth will always be exposed. For those with fond memories and a strong sense of hypocrisy, Halloween 2021 tells us SO MUCH about what really happened in the past 19 months.
