As a fierce and consistent critic of mask mandates, especially for children, it has been quite remarkable, and almost eerily inspiring with respect, to see how, at least in the bluish areas of a nation once founded in freedom, the masked mandates have somehow been able to hold on. . After all, they’re not based on the law, and even here in heavily awakened Los Angeles, the county sheriff has made it clear that law enforcement is not punishing those who defy the warrant.

So how is it then that so many organizations have continued to force the people who participate in them to disguise themselves, and the vast majority of people stay there, usually without even a hint of pushback? The answers to this question are fascinating from a human behavioral perspective, and do not necessarily indicate that a majority of people truly believe that masks significantly reduce your chances of contracting or transmitting the virus (if they did. , we wouldn’t routinely see packages of outdoor football and baseball games with barely a bit of masking, even in very blue towns like LA).

The first and most obvious explanation is pure peer pressure. When the majority of a group, especially when that side has received the media’s perception of moral superiority, takes such overt action, it causes the weak and confused members of the minority group to give in and comply (this is partly why you see so few masks in major outdoor sports where Nazi masks lost their magical virtue signaling powers). The impact of this is seen most dramatically in public schools, where I personally know many very anti-mask teachers who are terrified of saying or doing anything about it because they know that they are in the minority in their field.

The first day I picked up my nine year old daughter from school this year (where she is strictly required to wear a mask almost at all times, despite little real world science to justify it), as I stood outside waiting with the other parents, it was about 50/50 in terms of using the mask. On the second day, this ratio increased to about 70/30 in favor of masking. That’s when I knew where it was going, and couldn’t bear to pick her up in person, preferring to do it by car after most of the crowd of what I perceive to be anti- science, child- abusing, the lemmings scattered (a pickup scenario that luckily really loves my daughter).

Another factor boosting support for mask warrants is a quirk in the way most people view data / evidence, especially when media coverage of a topic is so incredibly biased. My main argument against warrants has always been that despite massive amounts of real-world data over the past year and a half, there isn’t enough real-world evidence to support the theory that mask warrants reduce the spread of Covid enough to justify their implementation. If there was such evidence, it would now be overwhelming due to the unprecedented amounts of data collected.

Individually, the vast majority of the population, and by extension compulsive mask wearers, have not tested positive for Covid. Therefore, mask wearers naturally attribute the fact that they have not been personally infected to their religious use of masking (when this could be simply because the virus is not as contagious or common as it is known to be. initially feared, a concept clearly supported by the fact that Pfizer, even during the Delta Wave, struggled to find children sick with Covid for their most recent vaccine study).

However, that doesn’t do much to explain how and why so many private entities have heavily enforced mask mandates, often beyond what the state or the public demand. There is a clear correlation between an organization’s sensitivity to Woke Mob outrage and the extent to which it ensures that everyone involved is strictly masked.

For example, famous places like Disneyland, although they are mainly outdoors, require the use of a universal mask and, cruelly for young children, to distance themselves from its characters. Not because the already insane state of California dictates it, or science suggests it from a distance, but rather because everything that happens at Disneyland is flammable ground for a firestorm on social media, in particular. on Woke Twitter where the pro-mask sentiment becomes cult. like intensity.

Airlines, although they did not use masks during the first months of the pandemic without evidence of significant spread, are another example of this phenomenon where companies most vulnerable to social media attacks are most vigilant. to enforce the use of masks. With the federal warrant in place on planes, any photo of someone committing profanity by not wearing it properly will go viral, preventing any failure to apply in a place where the very good ventilation system is already making the spread. very rare Covid.

But no area of life is quite like academia, where the use of masks, even in downright silly situations, has now taken on a life of its own as the primary sign of being a respectable educational institution. I recently had a very bizarre experience – no coincidence on Twitter – that really confirmed how crazy things have gotten.

I was kind of tagged by an acquaintance in a tweet congratulating the local women’s high school volleyball team for winning their league title, with a photo of the team celebrating, no mask nor social distancing. Not knowing what to do, but delighted that the girls at least didn’t have to mask themselves during their victory pic, I responded by briefly applauding the victory while giving them a pump emoji for not wearing masks. .

Much to my shock, my benign response created so much consternation and controversy that the team’s twitter account responded with a terse statement explaining that girls always wear masks except for that very brief moment. They then blocked me and, most depressing of all, in an obvious panic about what could happen next, deleted the photo of the girls celebrating their victory..

In a world where Twitter did not exist, or at least where it was not so dominated by pro-mask forces, it is clearer than ever that mask mandates would be much less feared, and that much of the country would become a red- college football game where few people wear a mask, and where there is no sign of major spread of Covid. Woke Twitter is the glue that ultimately holds the mask mandates together, acting as an intimidating muscle to scare even high school volleyball teams into having irrefutable evidence that the abuses the college super system has to offer. -liberal made athletes endure, via unnecessary forced masking even during play, was relieved for a few harmless moments of celebration.

The most nefarious aspect of this perfect storm of irrationality is that there are many people, especially those in power, who have become so deeply invested in the idea that mask mandates must work that they cannot stop using the mask. After all, if it ever does, and nothing unusually bad happens, then it will be proven that those who ordered the masks were wrong (proof around the country, and the world, suggests that the mandates are wrong, but our media have tried to ignore this reality). And of course, no one wants to admit that they wore a mask, and made children do the same, for well over a year, for little legitimate reason.

There is no more outrageously transparent evidence of this selfish motivation than the CDC inexplicably says kids should always be masked in schools, even AFTER being vaccinated, which raises the very real possibility that some mask warrants will never be lifted. Schools are just one of many areas of life where we continue to hide mandates so that no one has to face the possibility that we have all suffered a ton of aggravation, abused our children and greatly polluted the world. environment, for little but the psychological benefit of a blanket.
