LONDON (AP) – The Jacksonville Jaguars ended their 20-game losing streak when Matthew Wright scored a 53-yard field goal as time ticked by in a 23-20 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday in London.

Trevor Lawrence connected on a short slant pass to Laviska Shenault Jr. and the Jaguars (1-5) called the time-out with 1 second remaining after the Dolphins (1-5) bet on a fourth and 1 of their 46 yard line and came short.

Lawrence threw for 319 yards and a touchdown as he and coach Urban Meyer finally claimed their first NFL wins – even though it took a trip to Europe to make it in a ‘home’ game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Before Sunday, the Jaguars hadn’t won a game since beating Indianapolis, 27-20, in the 2020 season opener. The 20-game losing streak is the second longest in the Super era. Bowl.

The Dolphins lost their fifth straight game, spoiling the return of Tua Tagovailoa, who made his first start in a month. The sophomore quarterback threw two touchdown passes to Jaylen Waddle.

Jacksonville’s victory also shattered the London hexagon in the rookie quarterbacks, which were 0-5 since the NFL began hosting regular season games there in 2007.

Now the Dolphins are racking up the losses. Miami has not won since defeating New England in Game 1 of the season, when the Dolphins were seen as a possible playoff team after a 10-6 season in 2020.

Wright tied the game at 20 from a 54-yard field goal with 3:40 left.

The Dolphins took a 20-17 lead when Tagovailoa completed a seven-game, 91-yard run with a 2-yard touchdown pass to Waddle with 10:22 left in the game. Waddle grabbed the ball and stuck it over the goal line as cornerback Nevin Lawson tackled it.

Jacksonville took a 17-13 lead early in the third quarter on James Robinson’s 1-yard rush after scolding 24 yards the previous play. The practice included a 29-yard reception by Jamal Agnew and an unnecessary roughness penalty on Miami safety Jevon Holland.

Tagovailoa and the Dolphins’ offense got off to a hot start, scoring in their first practice but wasting two more chances inside the Jacksonville 10-yard line, settling for field goals each time.

In opening practice, Tagovailoa completed eight of 10 assists and completed a 75-yard opening practice with a 6-yard incline to Jaylen Waddle to put Miami in the lead, 7-0. They converted three third downs, including a 20-yard reception by tight end Mike Gesicki and Tagovailoa’s 7-yard scrum at the 6-yard line, setting up Waddle’s touchdown.

The Jaguars responded with their own big plays, when Lawrence connected with Agnew for a 24-yard gain in their first scrimmage play. Practice stalled, however, when Dan Arnold dropped a third pass at the 16-yard line. The Jaguars settled for a 40-yard field goal from Matthew Wright – their first field goal of the season – to make it 7-3.

After 33- and 24-yard baskets by Jason Sanders, the Jaguars forced a three-and-out and recovered the ball at Miami’s 49-yard line with 1:45 left in the half, down 13- 3.

Lawrence then ultimately exploited the exhausted Miami secondary, throwing a perfect pass to Marvin Jones Jr. in the end zone for a 28-yard touchdown pass with backup cornerback Noah Igbinoghene on cover to make the score 13- 10 with 40 seconds to go in half-time.
