Don Lemon says Joe Rogan took horse dewormer

Joe rogan and dr. Sanjay Gupta had a substantial, high profile interview this week, in which Dr Gupta conceded that CNN should not have accused Rogan of taking horse medication. In a much less widely seen conversation, Gupta then spoke with CNN Don Lemon about this podcast, with radically different results.

Rogan, who took ivermectin for Covid last month, confronted Gupta during the podcast, saying, “They’re lying to your network about people taking human drugs, vs. vets,” holding up the actual drug, from a human doctor for human use, with no horses or worms having no say in it.

Dr Gupta bluntly conceded that “they shouldn’t have said” Rogan was taking horse medicine, telling Rogan: “If you have a human pill – because there were people taking veterinary medicine. and you obviously didn’t get it from a doctor – so it shouldn’t be called that.

Yet when Lemon brought it up, the story changed.

“Ivermectin is a drug commonly used as a dewormer for horses. So it is not a lie to say that the drug is used as a dewormer for horses, ”Lemon said. It is not a lie to say that. It’s a lie to pretend that’s what CNN has always said – a point Gupta conceded to Rogan.

In August, Mississippi warned against taking “highly concentrated” over-the-counter drugs veterinary ivermectin. But CNN didn’t say Rogan took a drug that too used for horses.

Penicillin is a medicine that is also used for horses, but no one accuses someone of taking horse medicine if they are taking penicillin given to them by a doctor. If they took penicillin given to them by a vet, in horse doses, that could be the story, but just taking penicillin to normal people is not called “taking penicillin.” antibiotics for horses “.

The charge against Rogan – explicitly and ad nauseum – by CNN hosts was that he had taken animal medicine, not a medicine which is also the basis of medicines for animals. There was no room for maneuver.

• “He says he takes ivermectin, a dewormer for cattle,” said Jim acosta September 5, barely a month ago. Dr. Antoine Fauci, with whom Acosta was speaking, made no effort to correct this.

Anderson Cooper teased his Sept. 1 segment on the subject saying that Rogan “admitted to taking a controversial treatment designed for animals.”

• In the same segment, Cooper repeated this characterization, and his fellow CNN host Brian stelter called what Rogan took “a horse dewormer which is discouraged by the government.”

• Dr. Leana wen, with whom they were both speaking, made no effort to correct this.

• On September 1, Don Lemon claimed that Joe Rogan “said he took the dewormer drug Ivermectin which has been touted by right-wing groups” as a treatment for covid.

• Dr. Jonathan reiner, with whom Lemon was speaking, made no effort to correct this. Likewise, the Chyrons simply claimed that Rogan was referring to or using a “horse dewormer”.

And last night, Don Lemon attempted to argue that CNN is simply treating ivermectin as something that is also used as a medicine for horses.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta, with whom Don Lemon was speaking, made no effort to correct this. Lemon also didn’t bring up the fact that Dr. Gupta specifically said – while in the room with Rogan – that it wasn’t and that they shouldn’t have said it.

Fortunately for the American public, Dr Gupta still managed to provide important information about real vaccines and to advocate with the public for healthy and life-saving ways to treat or help prevent Covid in both interviews.

With that in mind, you could certainly argue that Dr. Gupta was simply being diplomatic in the fight against “horse dewormer”, responding only to the exact words used by interviewers. And you would probably be right: Dr. Gupta is painstakingly diplomatic, even when directly contradicting months of strident CNN coverage.

The hosts of the CNN show, on the other hand, were deliberate and relentless in their mockery. The chyrons laughed, the comment laughed. They weren’t just reporting news or presenting information, they were expressing their derision through willful miscommunication or, to use a term you hear a lot these days, misinformation.

In almost all of the cases, the claims were made while speaking to CNN contributors who are real doctors, but chose not to correct the hosts.

Joe Rogan confronted Dr. Gupta about it, showing him the medicine from a human for a human, and Gupta agreed that it was not a horse dewormer, after which CNN’s Don Lemon went on to say. mistakenly claimed they were right from the start, while using obfuscation to imply they never even really said it in the first place.

Despite the opportunity, CNN made no effort to correct this.

It is dishonesty. It is contempt. It’s… CNN.
