CNN Town Hall with President Joe Biden on October 21

CNN Town Hall with Joe biden Thursday was softball despite the president facing crises at home and abroad.

On the one hand, the number of interrogators identified by party affiliation was uneven with seven Democrats, three independents and two Republicans, according to Fox news.

The moderator’s questions, Anderson Cooper, were only easy for Biden. These questions included what would and what might not be included in the final version. reconciliation package it would be the biggest expansion in government welfare since the Great Society and would seek to address climate change. Given the trillions of dollars in proposed spending, Cooper should have challenged Biden on the price, our $ 28 trillion national debt (and it’s not over) and the inflation that has already happened and that would get worse if those trillions came true. Cooper should have asked if there should be new taxes or tax increases, as individuals and businesses continue to grapple with the ramifications of the coronavirus pandemic.

Biden made a lot of news during mayoral, for example saying he was ready to change the filibuster for voting rights “and maybe more”. Cooper did not press Biden on the precedent the filibuster modification would set in that there would be calls for its abolition on issues other than election law such as climate change, and that the Republicans, if and when they take control of both houses of Congress and the White House, could eliminate filibuster completely. Removing the filibuster would run counter to Biden’s call for unity and bipartisanship and erode American Democratic standards, which Biden and the Democrats accused Republicans of.

Topics omitted at the mayoral meeting included the consequences of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan as the Americans and Afghan allies who aided the United States during the nearly 20-year war were abandoned; in addition to the scandal which engulfed the Loudoun County Public School in Virginia which allegedly attempted to sweep two student sexual assault charges under the rug.

Biden should also have been asked about critical race theory and whether parents should tell schools what to teach their children – something the Democratic candidate from Virginia for governor Terry McAuliffe To said shouldn’t be the case. Biden should have been asked to respond to the anger parents have shown at school board meetings over coronavirus protocols and programs, as this is a nationwide trend.

Additionally, while Biden was asked about rising gas prices nationwide, Cooper should have asked him why he shut down the Keystone XL pipeline while allowing the Russian Nord Stream 2 pipeline to be completed and, concerning the latter, he made a geopolitical gift to Vladimir Poutine despite the harsh rhetoric about Russia Biden voiced during his presidential campaign.

While CNN’s town hall has managed to be newsworthy, it has failed to hold the president to account. It should come as no surprise that CNN is Biden’s platform of choice – having served all his city hall as network chairman, according to to former White House correspondent for CBS News Mark Knoller – just like Fox News was the former president that of Donald Trump.
