Reuters reported this week that, during a phone call in July, the president Joe biden urged the then Afghan president Achraf Ghani to project that the fight against the Taliban was going well, “whether it was true or not.”

“I don’t need to tell you that the perception in the world and in parts of Afghanistan, I believe, is that things are not going well in terms of fighting the Taliban,” Biden said, according to Reuters, which reviewed a transcription and recording the call. “And there is a need, whether it’s true or not, there is a need to project a different image.”

With the exception of a few mainstream media, including United States today and The Washington Post, there have been no reports of the history of publications like The New York Times.

What’s more, the major networks – CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS and ABC – appear to have ignored him completely, according to a review of transcripts on media monitoring service TVEyes. Fox News reporter and former Mediaite Joseph wulfsohn first brought this to light Thursday, citing transcripts, in what he called “a media blackout in the explosive report”.

The scandal of the appeal revealed by Reuters is that it reveals that Biden cared more about the optics than the gruesome reality on the ground, where the Taliban was winning – and ended up controlling Afghanistan, creating a refuge for terrorists and reversing more than 19 years of progress made in the country, including for women. If Trump had done what Biden did, the major networks would provide full coverage of the tragedy (and rightly so).

Mainstream media favorable to Biden did a great job overall covering the withdrawal from Afghanistan and the disastrous and immoral consequences which included a hasty evacuation which, although it saved over 123,000 people, left the Americans and, would have, the majority of Afghan allies, including the interpreters, behind, putting them at risk of being captured or, worse yet, killed by the Taliban or other terrorist groups. Unfortunately, the omission by most mainstream media, including all the major networks, of this report is inexcusable and puts the brakes on this great work.
