How to watch: Noon to 6 p.m. EST on ESPN; 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on ESPN2; and streaming on the ESPN app.

Due to the number of matches going through the courts, these times are estimates and may fluctuate depending on when the previous game is over. All times are Eastern standard.

12th seed Simona Halep withdrew from the Western & Southern Open earlier this month with a torn right abductor. The two-time major champion is a tough competitor when in good health, but several injuries this year have kept her from competing at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

Camila Giorgi, ranked 36th, is on the rise, having won her first Masters 1000 at the National Bank Open in August. Giorgi has an aggressive base play that will put Halep on a defensive footing, and for both players, it will be a good test of their ability to do a deep run at the US Open.

ARTHUR ASHE STADIUM | 2:00 p.m.

Andy Murray, who won the US Open in 2012, has been suffering from injuries since 2018, playing on the tour intermittently between surgeries. Still, Murray competed well enough, reaching the third round at Wimbledon in July.

3rd seed Stefanos Tsitsipas collapsed from Wimbledon in the first round after qualifying for the final at Roland Garros. His consistency is often put to the test by experienced players and the Greek star will be in a crushing match against the three-time majors champion when they first meet.

ARTHUR ASHE STADIUM | 7:00 p.m.

3rd seed Naomi Osaka won the US Open in 2018 and 2020, and will look to start her title defense with a convincing first-round victory. Osaka lost in the third round of the Olympics to eventual silver medalist Marketa Vondrousova. The disappointing Tokyo result can surely be put behind her as she returns to the adoring crowds of New York City.

Marie Bouzkova reached her second career WTA final in February on the hard courts in Melbourne ahead of the Australian Open. The 23-year-old Czech won the US Open Women’s title in 2014, but has not replicated that success on the professional tour. A loss to Osaka would be his biggest victory.

ARTHUR ASHE STADIUM | 9:00 p.m.

2nd seed Daniil Medvedev will face ATP Tour veteran Richard Gasquet to top off the night session at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Medvedev won the National Bank Open earlier this month and is one of the favorites for the final on September 12. Gasquet hasn’t made it past the third round of a major tournament since 2016, and an upset seems unlikely as Medvedev will look to repeat or better his finals are set from 2019.

Court 8 | 11:00

Mayar Sherif and Anhelina Kalinina both reached the top 100 this year after their career best performances in Grand Slam tournaments. Sherif became the first Egyptian to win a main draw match at a major tournament in Australia this year, and Kalinina reached the second round at Roland Garros. These promising players are well-assorted opponents. Kalinina won their only game when they met on clay in July, but Sherif is well suited to hard courts and is expected to be the small favorite heading into today’s game.
