CTO of decentralized exchange SushiSwap revealed why the protocol no longer wants to scale using Optimistic Ethereum’s layer two solutions.

Layer two solution provider O whitelisted several projects last year, including Uniswap and Synthetix, granting them preferential access to its platform as it is built.

SushiSwap wanted to be whitelisted as well, but this was not done, resulting in the decision to delay further development. In its official version Documentation, Optimism makes it clear that “contract deployments on the Optimistic Ethereum backbone are currently whitelisted.”

In an August 11 thread titled “Why Sushi Doesn’t Come to Optimism, “ SushiSwap chief technical officer Joseph Delong said being banned for the whitelist means the protocol is not “super keen to roll out just yet” on the release platform. layer two scale

He cited “non-preferential treatment” as the reason after Sushiswap deployed the scaling solution on testnet and tried to negotiate with the management of Optimism.

He added that there had been a long discussion with “a lot of dancing”, so they finally had to ask if SushiSwap, which was spawned by Uniswap as a clone at the end of August 2020, would be treated on an equal footing during deployment.

“That’s when the team told us bluntly that Uniswap ‘had to go first’. This means that we were excluded from the deployment until Uniswap.

The protocol takes a wait-and-see approach that prefers what it calls “credibly neutral platforms” like Layer two alternative solutions provider Arbitrum, which would have whitelisted any project that requests it.

He added that he hoped the Sushi community would support this action and implored other plans to do the same “until Optimism makes an attempt at credible neutrality as an operator.”

Uniswap deployed its version 3 protocol on Optimism in mid-July with protocol founder Hayden Adams stating that the end goal was to fully meet the demand for high speed, low cost DEX trading.

WHERE uses optimistic rollups that rely on releasing data to the blockchain, assuming it’s already correct and allowing for a period of challenge. During this time, users can submit “fraud evidence” to point out that the data is incorrect, triggering a dispute that should lead to a correction of the data.

Ethereum influencer Anthony Sassano said the news of Sushi was pushed back in favor of Uniswap and others were disappointing, declaring that he was only long-term optimistic on “neutral and unlicensed platforms”, before adding:

“There is no place in this ecosystem for walled gardens – I hope the Optimism Team will rectify that.”

Uniswap founder Hayden Adams then stepped in to defend the decision to deploy on his DEX before SushiSwap. He said it was K. “The Twitter outrage has been fabricated. It’s not all conspiracy lol. I don’t really see why it’s problematic to complete planned launches before embarking on new ones.

Optimistic Ethereum has also defended its position and the whitelist mechanism, to respond:

“We whitelist projects as quickly as possible and always maintain the security of an alpha system. Uniswap deployed before Sushiswap because they signed up with us a year and a half ago, long before Sushiswap. First in, first out is not “playing favorites”.

Other DeFi protocols and exchanges, such as already whitelisted Synthetix, have already deployed to WHERE allowing their users to enjoy high speed and low cost transactions on the second layer. SushiSwap users, on the other hand, can wait longer.
