Vice President Kamala Harris was delayed more than three hours on Tuesday as she left Singapore for Vietnam due to a report of a recent “abnormal health incident” in Hanoi, where she will discuss public health strategies and will seek to strengthen partnerships in the South China Sea, a crucial part of President Biden’s strategy to counter China’s growing economic influence.

“Abnormal health incident” is how the Biden administration generally refers to cases of so-called “Havana syndrome” attacks, the unexplained headaches, dizziness, and memory loss reported by dozens of State Department officials, CIA officers, and their families.

A spokeswoman for Ms Harris, Symone Sanders, assured reporters traveling with the vice president on his second trip abroad since taking office that his health was not affected.

“You saw her get on the plane. She is fine, everything is fine and is looking forward to the meetings in Hanoi tomorrow, ”Sanders said when she insisted on the cause of the delay. She later added: “It has nothing to do with the health of the vice president.”

A State Department spokesperson said in a statement that “after careful assessment the decision has been made to continue the vice president’s trip.” The delegation arrived in Hanoi, Vietnam on Tuesday evening.

Before leaving for the airport, Ms. Harris participated in a closed-door meeting with U.S. Embassy staff. Members of the press traveling with her were already loaded into a motorcade awaiting her departure when they were brutally sent back to their hotel rooms, before being called back to continue the journey.

Upon arriving in Hanoi aboard Air Force Two, Ms Harris did not respond to a question from a reporter about why she decided to continue her trip following the report.

Jen Psaki, the White House press secretary, said the incident was not a confirmed case, but was publicly reported and “was not a person traveling in his party or whatever. it is of this kind “. Ms Psaki said the vice president had not been in contact with anyone with symptoms.
