CNN host Jake tapper dishonestly attacked the former US Ambassador to the UN Nikki haley Thursday for criticizing President Joe Biden’s disastrous policy on Afghanistan, which has now been taken over by the Taliban.

At New day, co-host Jean Berman Quoted Haley’s tweet on Wednesday: “Making our generals say they depend on diplomacy with the Taliban is an incredible scenario.” Negotiating with the Taliban is like dealing with the devil.

“She was the UN ambassador when the Trump administration started dealing with the Taliban, right? Berman asked Tapper, who replied in the affirmative.

Tapper went on to mention a statement made by the former ambassador in January 2018. The statement read, “The US policy on Afghanistan is working. We could see dramatic changes in terms of what US policy has done. We see that we are closer to talks with the Taliban and to the peace process than we have seen before. Tapper omitted this crucial sentence in bold.

Additionally, as part of Haley’s remarks to the press, which were made to the UN shortly after a trip she and a UN Security Council delegation made to Kabul to meet with officials. Afghans, the ambassador at the time said: “We are working hand in hand hand in hand with the Afghans and I think we will really continue to work on a peace process in order not to want the Afghanistan is a haven for terrorism. Tapper also ignored this quote.

Instead of acknowledging that Haley’s remarks came at a time when US policy in Afghanistan was a policy of force – one in which the Taliban was kept at bay, and the country was deterred from becoming a safe haven to plot a another September 11 – Tapper ran with his selective edition and accused Haley and former members of the Trump administration of an attempted “blackout” in the past four years under the president [Donald] Asset.

“I’m not blaming the Trump administration for trying to strike some sort of peace deal with the Taliban. You don’t make peace with your friends, you make peace with your enemies. This is how peace agreements work, ”Tapper said. “But there is this attempt by the former secretary [Mike] Pompeo, Vice president [Mike] penny, Trump is all over the place about it, Nikki Haley and their supporters in Congress to claim that there is something patently different about what Biden did than what Trump would have done.

It is important to note that while Trump, Pence and Pompeo deserve criticism for the terrible deal the United States struck with the Taliban in February 2020, which forced the Taliban to disassociate itself from Al Qaeda (which was a fantasy) and included the release of Taliban prisoners (a dangerous decision), Biden could have overturned that deal as he did with many of Trump’s other policies. Second, this deal was made more than a year after Haley left office.

While Haley deserves criticism for not speaking out against the deal, it is wrong to distinguish Haley from the way Tapper did – given that the conditions in 2018 were different from those Biden found himself in. recklessly and hastily withdrawn. This withdrawal was a shameful and immoral surrender that allowed the Taliban to take control of Afghanistan. Haley’s plea was for peace by force, while Biden pushed for unconditional surrender through weakness.

Tapper’s attack on Haley, however, serves to illustrate just how strong she could be as a presidential candidate in 2024. It seems a clear recognition of her electoral prowess that the mainstream media knives are already out.
