Here are some answers from across the country.

Plans

I will be homeschooling this year. Our 6 year old child suffers from epilepsy and he finally has no more medication. If we have a setback (his fits are triggered by high fevers) it would be devastating. He went too far for us to risk exposure. Dawn C., 39, Marcellus, New York

I am grateful that our child is vaccinated, especially now with the Delta variant rampant. Overall, wearing a mask all day and maintaining a social distance didn’t stop her from enjoying school, having fun learning, and making new friends, thanks to the amazing teachers and administrators. – Nidal, 42, Atlanta

Frustration

In Florida, we didn’t have a choice like last year when we looked after our three children at home 100% of the time. The classes are the same size. There is no mask mandate: teachers, principals and office staff no longer even pretend to mask themselves. They have the children seated with about five students per table. We have no options. We are terrified for them. – Kayte Bush, 43, Dunedin, Florida. Her eldest son is vaccinated, but her 11-year-old twins are not yet eligible.

Unless I quit my job (which means I wouldn’t be able to pay the bills), I have no choice but to send them to school. – Marjorie Flanagan, 41, Austin, Texas

Worries

What concerns me most are people who send their children to school even though they know they are sick. They do it for a normal school year so I don’t see it changing. – Natalie Fragiadakis, 44-year-old teacher in Las Vegas

My 9 and 11 year old kids are anxious. Not on the Covid, but on the social aspects and the lack of academic confidence. Above all, I fear that they have fallen behind and that this will have a lasting effect on their lives. – Angela Schmieder 44, Orion, Ill.

That my children will lose their friends. Last year, even with mask requirements, I noticed sideways glances from their friends whose parents often promote anti-masking. I love these families very much and the difference of opinion during Covid was a strain. – Angela Preuss, 40, Denville, New Jersey
