The Taliban seize most of Afghanistan, including Kabul and the presidential palace, where they have posed with American weapons.

A helicopter transports American personnel from the embassy in Kabul.

Afghans run to and again the runway at Kabul airport to flee the country.

Afghans hang on and to fall US military aircraft.

Images and accounts of these events show the inevitable consequences of a withdrawal that the president Joe biden rejected or ignored. The first two being examples of the first and the last two examples of the second.

The United States’ efforts in Afghanistan were canceled so quickly after Washington spent billions of dollars there for nearly 20 years after 9/11. No matter what you think about the war and whether the United States should have withdrawn, there is no way to draw the consequences of what happened in Afghanistan.

It’s so bad that even the friendly mainstream media bailed out Biden for reporting this disaster. The MSM has rightly criticized the administration for the way it conducted the pullout by abandoning Afghan translators and others who aided US forces. The MSM also covered the part about the administration leaving behind the women who will once again live under the repressive Taliban regime. The perspective of immoral abandonment cannot be ignored.

Atlantic has published articles, including those entitled “Biden’s betrayal of Afghans will live in infamy, “The return of the Taliban is catastrophic for women, “A moment of introspection” and “Afghanistan is your fault. “

On Sunday, The New York Times‘s David sanger gave a burning indictment of Biden, although he also appears to blame the Trump administration for the deal it struck with the Taliban in February 2020 even though Biden did not have to follow it and could have – as he did with most of Trump’s policies – reverse it.

Sanger wrote:

Mr. Biden will go down in history, fairly or unfairly, as the president who presided over a humiliating and long-drawn final act of the American experience in Afghanistan. After seven months in which his administration seemed to exude an indispensable skill – getting over 70 percent of adults in the country vaccinated, engineering job growth, and moving towards a bipartisan infrastructure bill – anything about America’s last days in Afghanistan shattered the imagery.

Secretary of State Antoine Blinken was toasted by CNB, ABC and CNN Sunday, while the national security adviser Jake sullivan has been taken to task on TODAY . One of his comments to this interview was later ridiculed on CNN.

In addition, the mainstream media have used Biden’s words on Afghanistan against him.

On July 8, Biden said, “There will be no circumstance where you will see people being lifted off the roof of an embassy… of the United States of Afghanistan. it’s not at all comparable [to Vietnam]. “

Over the weekend, this “circumstance” occurred when US military helicopters took US embassy staff from the embassy compound to Kabul airport. It sounded like what happened in 1975 in Saigon, where American personnel were airlifted and evacuated as the United States lost the Vietnam War.

Also on July 8, Biden said: “It is highly unlikely that the Taliban will invade everything and own the whole country.” Except it was inevitable.

NBC News published an article claiming that Biden’s statements about not only Afghanistan but also Covid have “come back to haunt him”.

Despite the disaster unfolding in Afghanistan, Biden has not made any verbal statements about what has been going on for the past six days. It wasn’t until Monday that Biden shorten your vacation at Camp David to return to the White House to address the nation later in the afternoon. A comeback that has come in part thanks to the uninterrupted media coverage of what is happening in this country. It was a shameful speech in which he maintained his decision to withdraw while blaming our allies and not the Taliban, nor himself. After the speech, Biden left without answering questions from the press and returned directly to Camp David.

If only the critical MSM coverage of Biden could be applied daily as it has been in this story, Americans would benefit. Topics like the border crisis, Hunter Biden’s foreign influence peddling, and negotiations with Iran – the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism – could all use a more critical examination, to name a few. .

But at least the MSM has critically covered what has been Biden’s biggest foreign policy disaster to date. Better late than never.

This is an opinion piece. The opinions expressed in this article are those of the author alone.
