A Colorado A policeman was arrested after body camera footage showed him whipping, suffocating and threatening to shoot an unarmed man.

Another Aurora officer at the scene was arrested for failing to intervene or for reporting the use of force.

The incident took place last Friday, after the two police officers were called to the scene of an alleged trespass, police said at a press conference. There, they found three men who had outstanding arrest warrants for their arrests. After two of the men escaped, they targeted the one who remained, named Kyle Vinson, according to footage captured on one of the officers’ body cameras.

The footage shows the officers brutalizing Vinson, who cooperated with the officers and repeatedly told them they had the wrong person. An officer, named John Haubert, threatened to shoot Vinson and hit him with a pistol several times, leaving him bloodied and bruised.

Vinson can be heard in the video begging the officers, shouting that he needs water, asking them not to shoot him.

“You kill me!” says Vinson, who is bloodied after Haubert hit his head with a pistol.

Aurora Police Chief Vanessa Wilson announced the arrests at a press conference on Tuesday, saying she ordered an internal investigation as soon as she saw the body camera footage. It is possible that Vinson, 29, was unaware he had an arrest warrant at the time, Wilson said. The mandate was linked to a question of domestic violence.

“Watching him, I felt tears and anger rise,” Wilson said at the press conference, referring to the body camera images. “We are disgusted, we are angry. It’s not police work.

Haubert was arrested on a number of charges, including attempted first degree assault and second degree assault. He was put on administrative leave without pay after three years in the Aurora Police Department, Wilson said. The other officer, Francine Martinez, was put on paid administrative leave. Only officers convicted of felony can see their pay reduced, Wilson said.

The two officers are currently on bail.

“I’m just thankful that Mr. Vinson is alive,” Wilson said.

The incident occurs in the middle high level surveys in the death of Elie mcclain, a 23-year-old black man who entered cardiac arrest after police in Aurora strangled him and paramedics injected him with ketamine. McClain died a few days later. A previous independent investigation by the City of Aurora found that they had no legal basis to arrest McClain in the first place.

“I hope that transparency can make some of you believe that we are trying to do the right thing,” Wilson said. She later added: “We make changes every day.”

On Wednesday, a lawyer for Vinson said his client remains in custody, even though the officers who were arrested are out on bail.

“After being punched in the face with a pistol 13 or more times, he has, as you can imagine, suffered long-lasting injuries,” said Vinson’s attorney Nicholas Lutz, by KDVR-TV in Colorado. “He is grappling with the fact that while he remains in detention, the police officers who did this to him have bonded and are free. “
