I think it is time to ask Bill Newman of the American Civil Liberties Union to tell all of us what would be involved for concerned citizens to unite and file a civil lawsuit against Donald Trump.

Should we, the citizen taxpayers, pay for the damage and destruction that he has visited on the body politic, the health and welfare of millions, the destruction of government property (among other events: remember the dismantling of postal sorting machines), and the ravaging and destruction of property and building in the “People’s House”?

While Trump is also most likely guilty of criminal behavior, we must trust in the efforts of our state and federal district attorneys. But as individuals it seems that we have individual and collective rights to claim standing as individuals harmed by the actions of Trump. Usually public officials are indemnified by the government in civil cases, but it seems to me that an exception exists when the acts are intentionally caused by malfeasance and malevolence.

It would be a fitting punishment to see Trump charged with the financial costs associated with gross and malevolent malfeasance. To think that he can continue to sow lies, misinformation and further calamities with the wealth he has gathered from others who share his delusions and lies is disturbing in the extreme. It is time he should pay — literally.

So Mr. Newman, what can “we the people” do to restore our People’s House and our nation, not with taxpayer money, but the ill-begotten money of a reckless billionaire?
