How many of you woke up on Jan. 1, 2020 thinking, “This year I resolve to learn more about maskne.” Me neither, but if I have learned anything in 2020, it is to be grateful for all those who have helped us through this year.
Thank you to those who work at long-term care facilities. Caring for those with dementia during a pandemic is no one’s idea of a picnic, but you do this work with grace and compassion every day.
Thank you for the tireless efforts of medical workers and researchers. If we still had parties, you would be the most popular guests.
Thank you to our daughter’s school, your creativity and flexibility continue to amaze.
Thank you to parents who have upped their juggling game while balancing work, child care and teaching at kitchen tables.
To those whose jobs have been lost, thank you for continuing to do everything in your power to support your families.
Thank you to the grocery and food pantry workers for keeping the shelves stocked so that we can do the same at home.
Thank you to the libraries and the bookstores for keeping us from literally losing our minds.
Thank you to our vet for providing curbside canine care, especially during a pandemic puppy boom.
Thank you to the public health workers who formerly toiled away in the basement of city hall but now are at the command post.
Thank you to the racial justice movements for raising awareness and guiding us in reflection.
Thank you to all who worked to get out the vote and give us hope.
Thank you to the reporters for providing us with f-a-c-t-s. (I’m spelling it so the toddler-in-charge doesn’t have another tantrum.)
So, buh-bye 2020, don’t let the door hit ya on the way out. C’mon in 2021, we are so thankful you are finally here.
