Phillip Schofield, 59, and Holly Willoughby, 39, began Wednesday’s This Morning by telling viewers what was coming up on the show. With tomorrow marking the first day of October, Alison, 45, was on hand to inform those watching at home what they could do to celebrate Halloween safely this year. However, the ITV presenter made an error with the tradition of Trick or Treating and her co-stars couldn’t believe she’d been making the mistake for years.

Alison had said the tradition was called Treacle or Treat, with Phillip asking her in shock what her holiday celebration was.

Seeing his co-star was confused, the host said: “It’s not treacle – it’s Trick or Treat,” to which the presenter was blown away.

“No way. Are you serious? I thought it was Treacle or Treat. I’m 45-years-old and I never knew that,” she said.

“You went around to people’s houses with treacle?” the host enquired, to which his co-star admitted she never celebrated Halloween.

“Well, you’re the perfect person to do this item then,” Holy quipped as Alison was seen dressed in a witches costume.

Phillip and Holly both agreed Alison’s error would be their best moment of the show, despite only being live for 10 minutes.

Still confused by the concept of Trick or Treating, the presenter asked what the treat part of it was meant to be.

“Because if you don’t give them sweets, they throw eggs at your house or something,” Holly explained with consumer specialist Alice Beer, 55, seen in the background banging her head against the oven door.

The This Morning star then told the hosts another discovery she made the other day about certain phrases.

Taking to Twitter, those watching at home commented on the comical moment between the starts of the show.

One viewer wrote: “Treacle Treat must be a Birmingham thing! I used to think it was that and I have to correct my daughters each year as they both call it ‘trickle treating’.”

Another added on the social media platform: “I used to say treacle treat too! Alison, you’re not on your own.”

“When my son was younger he thought I was saying ‘cup of tuna’ not cappuccino!” a fourth viewer remarked.

Alison was only ever meant to star on the show for a segment called Diet Camp some years ago but has become one of the programme’s most popular presenters.

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant said one job “turned into six months, which turned into a year.

“Then I went to interview George Clooney and Britney Spears and that was it. I haven’t left,” she added.

“I’m going to be using a Zimmer frame still working for This Morning, aren’t I?” she said in an interview with The Guardian.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
