Coronation Street's Liz McDonald to make a 'dramatic' return next year | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Coronation Street‘s veteran actress Beverly Callard, dropped an almighty bombshell on fans of the ITV soap late last year, announcing she would be leaving to focus on other projects after over 30 years on cobbles. But it looks like Corrie bosses may have changed their minds and have more in store for Liz McDonald as she returns to Weatherfield in 2021.

The iconic barmaid made an ironically quiet exit earlier this year, as Liz jetted off to live in sunny Spain.

But fans wondered why she hadn’t been given a bigger exit storyline considering her long-running role.

The 63-year-old actress then revealed she had been suffering complications after undergoing a botched surgery for a life-changing hip injury, which left her fearing she’d never walk again.

Beverley injured her hip while doing a theatre show but the operation was unsuccessful.

She underwent a second surgery in July, but is still struggling to walk again.

Admitting keeping the surgery a secret from her Coronation Street co-stars, she confessed she “didn’t want anyone to think I was feeling sorry for myself”.

Following uproar from fans about her discreet exit, Beverley confirmed Liz would be coming back early next year for what we assume is a proper send-off.

Speaking on Loose Women on Monday, Beverley confirmed she would be making another reappearance on the cobbles and that it would be very “dramatic”.

“It wasn’t Coronation Street’s fault, it was no one’s fault, it’s just one of those things,” she added.

Teasing viewers with what’s to come, she admitted what would be her perfect goodbye to the cobbles.

“What I’m hoping for the exit is that Liz and Jim McDonald (played by Charles Lawson) will get back together and go off into the sunset, she giggled.

“But I have a feeling that might not happen…”

She’ll be coming back at the right time, especially when her son Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) needs her the most.

With the upcoming devastating conclusion for little Oliver drawing ever closer, Steve will need the woman he can depend on the most in his life by his side.

But what will be so dramatic about Liz’s farewell?

We’re definitely intrigued!

Coronation Street airs tomorrow at 7:30pm on ITV.
