Brett Giroir Denies Vanity Fair Blue States Covid testing Story

Assistant Secretary for Health Adm. Brett Giroir denied Vanity Fair’s report that a national coronavirus testing plan was scrapped because the virus was affecting Democratic states the most on Fox News.

Addressing the report on Friday, Giroir said, “I have never heard something so preposterous as we’re not going to do a national plan because it’s affecting Democratic states.”

“I spent on the phone — morning, afternoon, and night — talking to states that were clearly Democratic states who were having problems. We worked on everyone’s behalf. We sent resources where they need to be sent,” he declared. “We worked tirelessly, so I would like to put that to rest because I think it’s just… It’s really ridiculous and it just foments mistrust in the public health system when we really do need trust.”

“We are all working for everyone’s benefit,” he concluded.

Giroir also told Fox News there was “no closet cabinet or super secret plans.”

But the article in question quoted an unnamed public health expert who said that a political leader on Jared Kushner’s team explained that “The political folks believed that because it was going to be relegated to Democratic states, that they could blame those governors, and that would be an effective political strategy.”
