4 members of pro-independence student group arrested on suspicion of 'inciting secession' under Hong Kong's security law

The ex-convenor of Hong Kong pro-independence group Studentlocalism has been arrested on the suspicion of inciting secession under the new national security law.

Police arrested 19-year-old Tony Chung on Wednesday evening at his residence in Yuen Long and took him to Ma On Shan police station. Studentlocalism spokesperson Ho Nok-hang and member Yanni Ho were also taken away by officers.

Chung’s detention represents the first time a political figure has been arrested under the controversial legislation which criminalises subversion, secession, terrorism and collusion with foreign powers.
