Sports Q: What is the best national sports radio show?

Welcome to Boston.com’s Sports Q, our daily conversation, initiated by you and moderated by Chad Finn, about a compelling topic in Boston sports. Here’s how it works: You submit questions to Chad through TwitterFacebook, and email. He’ll pick one each weekday to answer, then we’ll take the discussion to the comments. Chad will stop by several times per day to navigate. But you drive the conversation.

Curious as the media reporter, what do you think is the best sports radio or debate show in the country? It seems like the ones that are the most negative get the most attention, especially the ones with Stephen A. Smith, Skip Bayless and Nick Wright. Are those the best shows, or just the ones we hear the most about? — Lee F.

I have to admit, first of all, that Stephen A. has really grown on me in the last year or so. I’m not sure what the tipping point was – maybe the hilarity of his crushing disappointment in the Knicks missing out on Zion Williamson – but it’s become clearer and clearer that he’s in on the joke, and in the right way.

When he’s screaming about – well, there’s a decent chance he’s screaming about the Knicks at any given moment – he does it as much for the absurdity of it than anything else. It’s sort of the opposite of Bayless, whose takes are contrived but presented wholly seriously and without any joy. I am pro-Stephen A. now, and I never would have said that two years ago.

Anyway, the sports radio show I enjoy the most is the Dan Patrick Show, both from a media columnist and sports fan perspective. There’s great chemistry between Patrick and the four “Danettes,’’ he gets superb guests (how can Reggie Miller be so good on this show and so annoying on NBA broadcasts?), he asks succinct, on-point questions, and it’s a purely enjoyable listen (or watch) without any of the contrived tension that so many shows feel like they need.

That’s the easy choice for me. Oh, and I still have no idea why we’re supposed to care about Nick Wright’s opinions.

What does everyone else think? What is the best national sports radio or debate program? I’ll hear you in the comments.
