Phoenix Suns use 'NBA 2K' game to play rest of season

The Phoenix Suns have adopted an interesting approach to keep their NBA season going.

The NBA team revealed Thursday it plans to play out the rest of its schedule using the video game “NBA 2K.”

The Suns say they will stream their first virtual game Friday on Twitch, playing the Dallas Mavericks.

“The season isn’t over yet…” reads a part of a tweet posted to the Suns’ account Thursday.

The spreading coronavirus pandemic has forced multiple sports leagues including the National Basketball Association, National Hockey League and Major League Baseball to postpone their seasons. Meanwhile, the NCAA canceled the Division I men’s and women’s basketball tournaments.

Sports video games could serve as a possible outlet for fans eager to have basketball, hockey and other sports back in their lives. Among them: Publisher 2K is behind the popular NBA 2K series, while Electronic Arts has a variety of sports games based on the NHL, NBA, NFL and soccer. For PlayStation fans, Sony develops MLB: The Show, their pro baseball simulation.
