Coronavirus cancels St. Patrick's Day parades, Coachella rescheduled

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and its country music counterpart Stagecoach have both been moved to October amid growing global concern over the spread of coronavirus.

More than 119,000 people have been infected worldwide, with more than 4,200 deaths as of Tuesday night. In the United States, there are more than 970 confirmed cases, according to a coronavirus data dashboard run by Johns Hopkins University.

Two of the world’s most famous St. Patrick’s Day parades were recently canceled. City officials in Boston and Dublin, Ireland, said Monday that their parades are off and so are many of the multimillion-dollar festivities surrounding them. Other cities may soon follow.

Following the cancellation of South by Southwest and Ultra Music Festival in Miami, a petition circulating online called for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival to be canceled. Goldenvoice, the Los Angeles-based company that produces Coachella and Stagecoach, moved the festivals to Oct. 9-11 and 16-18 and Oct. 23-25, respectively.
