Charles Barkley announces he tested negative for COVID-19

Basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley announced Monday he tested negative for the coronavirus. The Turner Sports analyst fell ill 10 days ago and said he was being tested for COVID-19.

“I’ve received my COVID-19 test results this morning and they are negative,” Barkley said in a statement released by Turner Sports. “I’d like to thank everyone for reaching out and expressing your concern and support. You all be safe and please take the necessary actions to help ensure your well-being.”

Barkley called into his show on TNT on March 12 to say he wasn’t feeling well and was self-isolating and being tested for the virus. The NBA was the first major professional league in North America to shut down after player Rudy Gobert tested positive. It set up a domino effect for other pro leagues to follow suit and for the NCAA to cancel March Madness and spring sports.

“I’m just kind of in limbo right now. I’m hoping, I’m really hoping, it was just a bug,” the 57-year-old Barkley said at the time of his test on March 12.

The NBA additionally had a number of its players test positive for COVID-19 in the last several weeks, including superstar Kevin Durant
