Royal Caribbean cruise cleared to sail from New Jersey

Passengers aboard a Royal Caribbean ship docked in Bayonne, New Jersey, were sent to a hospital to be tested Friday over coronavirus concerns, but the cruise line says they are not showing symptoms and that the ship has been cleared to depart.

Four passengers on Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas didn’t show symptoms of deadly virus, which has infected more than 31,000 people globally and killed more than 600, after being examined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Friday, according to a statement on the cruise line’s website, and test results are pending.

News broke Friday morning that four passengers on the ship that docked in Bayonne Friday morning were recently in China, which is the epicenter of the outbreak, and were sent to the hospital after being screened for coronavirus.

“None of the four guests being tested by CDC showed any clinical signs or symptoms of coronavirus,” according to the website. “One had tested positive onboard for Influenza A. Our records indicate the guests had not been in China since January 26 — 12 days ago.”
