Climate Change Will Be 'Fight of the Century,' Macron Says Visiting Glacier

French President Emmanuel Macron said the battle against climate change would be “the fight of the century” as he visited the Mer de Glace on Thursday.

The glacier, close to the famous Mont-Blanc mountain in the Alps, is France’s largest.

Macron has made tackling climate change a priority and said the battle was “at the core of the destiny of humankind”.

Scientists say global emissions of carbon dioxide and other pollutants have to start falling rapidly as soon as possible to meet the Paris climate accord’s goal of keeping global warming by the end of the century well bellow 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit), and ideally 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees F).
